Year of Mercy

Celebrating the Year of Mercy
On Tuesday, December 8th, the Church opened the Year of Mercy in response to the wishes and reflections of Pope Francis.  We invite all of you to become familiar with the Year of Mercy by watching this short Youtube reflection.
Please click here for video.

"During the upcoming Season of Lent, we take a good look at our lives, and see how we have fallen short in showing God's love to the world around us. It's a season for taking stock. Examine how you're faring in your relationships with your husband or wife, with your kids, or with your parents. Take a look at how you spend your time and how you spend your money. Of course, we're going to become aware of all the ways that our lives have gone off the track. But for me, the really big question is: How can I do better? How can I get my life back on track?"
It is important to spend time reflecting during Lent not because we want to dwell on our faults and mistakes, but rather because we are preparing for something. What are we preparing for? Lent is about preparing our hearts to celebrate the saving miracle of Easter, when Jesus Christ conquered sin and death. In Easter we see the immense love that God has for each of us, to become man and suffer and die and rise again to save us. To save you! Lent helps us see how we don't always live in ways that love God back.  So how can we get our lives back on track? Turn to God. Ask for his forgiveness and help. He gave us the Sacrament of Reconciliation for exactly this reason, to forgive us and help us get on track.
Wednesday evenings during Lent, Catholic churches in the DC area are open for prayer and confession. The Light is ON for you.
