Year of Mercy

Celebrating the Year of Mercy
On Tuesday, December 8th, the Church opened the Year of Mercy in response to the wishes and reflections of Pope Francis.  We invite all of you to become familiar with the Year of Mercy by watching this short Youtube reflection.
Please click here for video.

"We are called to look beyond, to focus on the heart in order to see how much generosity everyone is capable of. No one can be excluded from the mercy of God; everyone knows the way to access it and the Church is the house where everyone is welcomed and no one is rejected. Her doors remain wide open, so that those who are touched by grace may find the assurance of forgiveness. The greater the sin, the greater the love that must be shown by the Church to those who repent. With how much love Jesus looks at us! With how much love He heals our sinful heart! Our sins never scare Him. Let us consider the prodigal son who, when he decided to return to his father, considers making a speech, but the father doesn't let him speak. He embraces him (cf. Lk15:17-24). This is the way Jesus is with us. 'Father, I have so many sins....'- But He will be glad if you go: He will embrace you with such love! Don't be afraid." - Pope Francis, March 13, 2015
Read and reflect on the story of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32). How does this image of the merciful father with open arms inform your understanding of God and deepen your relationship with him?
Lord, I know I am not deserving of your love, yet I trust you always run to me with compassion and draw me into your merciful embrace. Give me the faith to always turn back to you for healing whenever I have turned away. Amen.
