Security at Seton
Dear Parents:
Over the last few weeks, I have been considering at length matters related to security and safety at Seton. I will continue to maintain this priority, but I would like to share with you a few measures that will be taken by our staff as well as considerations for your action.
Recently, I met with both the Bladensburg Police and the Prince George's County Police to do a safety audit of the outside of Seton. As a result of this, please know that the following actions will be taken:
- Seton will be installing new signs around the campus that indicate our "No Trespassing" policy and our electronic surveillance of our grounds
- Seton will be locking the gate at the hidden driveway from 9:00-1:00 and from 4:00pm to 6:00am (except on days when there is heavy interior traffic due to multiple activities). Parents will have to enter and exit from Emerson Street. We wish to avoid people cutting through our property.
- After School drills - On November 11, we will begin after school crisis drills on a regular basis, just as we do school day drills, so that all of our staff and students know what to do in case of an emergency that occurs after school.
As we tighten up security, I want to ask you to have a very serious discussion with your daughter is she stays after school at Seton. It is our policy (page 45 of the handbook) that we do not allow students to leave the school grounds. Please review this with your daughter as a means of protection. It has recently come to our attention that students are leaving the school grounds with other students. Often times, they say it is to "go and get food", but other things are happening. Please note our policy and please review it with your daughter. In addition, it would be very wise to be sure that your daughter has a good lunch and extra snacks if she stays after school beyond 5:00.
After School Supervision
Students, whose parents entrust them to the care of Elizabeth Seton High School for an after school supervised activity including clubs, sports, study time, computer usage or socializing in the cafeteria are not permitted to leave the property unless they are with a coach, moderator chaperone, or Seton staff member who has the permission and the express purpose of conducting an approved activity off campus. Failure to observe this policy results in a level 4 offense.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. We want to work together to provide the utmost safety for our students.
Sister Ellen Marie

Senior Parents - Claire's Gourmet
Senior parents: if your daughter sold items from Claire's Gourmet, please read the following information carefully about delivery and pick-up: - All items will be delivered on Tuesday, November 3. You or your daughter must pick up all her items that day between 3:00 and 5:00 pm in the auditorium. The ONLY exceptions will be students who are absent from school that day. Athletic practice is not an excuse to not pick up items. If a student or her parent are unable to pick up her items for any reason, she needs to arrange for a friend to pick up for her, and she must email Mrs. Vo in advance to let her know who that person will be.
- Once we sort the orders and hand them off to you they are in YOUR possession. Items are perishable and many must be refrigerated, so if a student is not heading straight home, we recommend that she arrange for a parent or someone else to come pick up items after school.
- We will not hold items overnight unless a student is absent that day. We WILL NOT be responsible for any items unclaimed by 5:00 pm on Thursday, November 3.We do not have the refrigerator space to store unclaimed items and no one will be in the auditorium to distribute items after 5:00 pm. We will not reimburse students for items they do not pick up.
- Once you sign off on your order, it is YOUR responsibility. You must make sure the items stay refrigerated until you deliver them to those who purchased from you.

Parent-Teacher Conferences
Thursday, November 5, 2015
2:30-4:30
5:30-7:00 p.m.
- Bring your daughter's report card or her schedule with you. These documents have the names of her teachers on them.
- Stop in the student lobby for a map that identifies where the teachers are located for conferences.
- If the teacher is engaged with another parent, wait a respectful distance away for your turn. It may not be possible to see all of your daughter's teachers. Select 3 or 4 that you REALLY, REALLY wish to see.
- Conferences are designed to be a BRIEF communication between a parent and a teacher.
- Each conference should last no longer than 5 minutes. If you have major concerns about your daughter's progress, schedule an appointment with the teacher for another day so that sufficient time can be devoted to her. Please be considerate of others in regard to time.
- Conferences will be concluded promptly at 4:30 p.m. At this time faculty members will have a dinner break. Please conclude your discussion when the announcement is made that the conferences are over. Following a dinner break for faculty, conferences will resume at 5:30 p.m. and conclude at 7 p.m.
- If you do not get to see all of your daughter's teachers, call them or e-mail them, and they will call or e-mail you back.

Shadow students will not have cards and need to be noted on the clipboard only as "shadow". Carly '16 Update
Carly was discharged from the BMT unit at Children's Hospital on Monday, October 5. She "rang the bell" prior to leaving the oncology floor which is a significant moment. It signals the end of active treatment and begins a life free of cancer. Carly and her family are thrilled to be home. Carly will go to outpatient treatment for three days a week for the next three months. Last week she did have to stay in the hospital after going in for outpatient treatment. Carly has spent the last week back on the BMT floor but is in high spirits and ready to get back home. The Nguyen's would like to thank the entire Seton community for their prayers, cards, emails, videos, meals and outpouring of love. Carly still has a long road of recovery to travel but with our continued support she knows she can do it! We would love to continue to provide meals for the Nguyen's. It's not too late to sign up at takethemameal.com, search "Nguyen" in the recipient last name box and the password is "7422" to take Carly and her family a meal. This has been a big help to them.

A young woman who sees challenges instead of obstacles; Hope instead of despair; a young woman who believes in the power of volunteer action. Deadline for applications is December 1.
