Traffic

Aug. 28 starts our morning drop off time.  Please read this carefully.  Cars may enter through the hidden driveway or the front gate.  Please circle around the flag pole and drop off your student along the cafeteria entrance.  Please pull up to the sign so we can fit lots of cars.  Please exit either entrance.  Most of all, PLEASE BE PATIENT.  It takes a while for everyone to get in a routine.  Please do NOT drop off at any other entrance and please do not drop off at the Brooks Center.  The back gate on 58th is closed to everyone due to our track construction.

Student drivers can only park in the lower lot.  Student drivers may not park in the lot where the buses are parked.

In the afternoon, we repeat the same process, but even more patience is needed as the girls are not always in a routine.  Please let your daughter know that you will text her when you arrive.

Update on Carly Nguyen

Update on Carly Nguyen-Member of Class of 2016-#caringforcarly

Dear Elizabeth Seton Family,

Thank you for your continued prayers and support for Carly Nguyen '16.  Carly and her family believe that your prayers, love and support have helped her maintain her positive attitude and desire to keep fighting.  Carly was diagnosed with Leukemia in March and has been through numerous chemotherapy and radiation treatments since.  Carly will have a bone marrow transplant this Friday, August 28.  She has asked that we, as her Seton family, keep her in our prayers in a special way this week.

After the transplant is complete, Carly will have an intense recovery period.  Many members of our community have asked how they can help.  At this time, the Nguyen's would graciously accept meals and gift cards.  The family's main priority is caring for Carly and they plan to spend a month or two in the hospital.  You can sign up to make a meal or have a meal sent to the family by visiting takethemameal.com.

Then follow the directions below:
Go to the area that allows you to find a meal schedule by searching the recipient's last name and type "Nguyen".  The password is "7442".  You can sign up on the meal schedule there as well as read more details.

On behalf of the Nguyen family, thank you so much for all your kindness!  The entire Seton community is in the thoughts and prayers of the Nguyen family.

Best,

Melissa Davey

Dance Team Auditions

Music Parent Meeting--September 1 at 7:00 pm
Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year! On Tuesday, September 1, at 7:00 pm, there will be a mandatory meeting for all music families in the auditorium. At least one parent/guardian from each family should attend. Students are not required to attend but are welcome to come if they wish. This meeting will introduce you to the teachers in our Music Department as well as the Music Booster officers, and will cover many relevant topics such as concert uniforms, fundraisers, volunteer opportunities, performance requirements, grading policies, and private lessons. In addition, we will be announcing the destination for our Spring Music Department Trip!

We will have some of our private teachers present that evening to enable parents to meet them and get their daughters signed up for lessons.

Facilities Improvements

We are expecting the library to be finished on Sept. 4.  We know that you will truly love it when you see it.  The field is finished and looks stunning.  We are waiting for the track to be completed and to dry before walking on it.  Hope to see it completed in mid-September.

Changes with the Staff

This year several staff members have accepted new positions of service for which we are very grateful:

Ginger Thompson will teach one religion class and Sister Charles will move to the Religion Dept.
Peggy Joyner will serve as co-director of the cafeteria and Sr. Dorothy will assume responsibility for the bookstore.
Mary Lucian will assume responsibility for the tuition.

Transitioning - in the Tuition Office

Transitioning from Sr. Dorothy to Mary Lucian in the Tuition Office
We all owe a huge thanks to Sr. Dorothy for her hours in the tuition office.  She has been an invaluable help to so many parents and a guide and mentor to the staff.  Her availability and willingness to listen are hallmarks of her service.  You will find those same qualities in her at the bookstore.

But what do I do if I want to talk to someone about tuition?
Parents who want to talk about tuition call Mary Lucian at extension 7019.  If she is not there, leave a message and she will call you back.

What is the best way to talk with someone about tuition?
It is best to start with Mary Lucian via email.  If email will not work for you, please call Mary.

Can I still come to school to talk to someone or to pay tuition?
Yes, please come to the main office and they will instruct you to the proper staff member.

The Diamond's Leadership Program is back for a third straight year!

The Diamond's program provides leadership training to girls between the ages of 13-18 that focuses on college preparation and professional development. Since 2013, we have helped over 20 young women become exposed to Judges, Lawyers, Doctors, Educators, etc. We have provided countless hours of seminars in self- esteem, financial literacy and businesses plans, to name a few.  We also taught the girls the value of public service by engaging them in community service projects. We have given over $1000 worth of scholarships to our graduating seniors.  Since 2013, we've had six girls graduate from the Diamond's program and go on to attend the University of Maryland, University of Michigan, University of Virginia, Frostburg State University, University of North Carolina A&T  and Delaware State University.  As of 2013, we are proud to have a 100% rate of our girls attending a four year college or university.

The Diamond's Leadership Program is offered to any young women who lives or goes to school in the Washington D.C. area.  Please forward this application to any young women who you think would benefit from this program.
