Attention Parents

ATTENTION PARENTS:  Let's make our Maryland Legislative Body Work for Us
Right now the Maryland Legislative Assembly is reviewing a bill that would mean more money for non-public schools to be used for tuition assistance, facilities, and educational improvements.
The Maryland Education Credit Bill needs to be passed so that businesses can receive a 60% tax credit for donations made to Elizabeth Seton High School.  We have many businesses who presently give to Seton without such an advantage.  They would be motivated to give more and we could give more to your daughter if this benefit was available
Please see that attached flier of what you as a parent can do to make this happen.
TAKE THE PLEDGE AND LET'S GET THE MOST FOR OUR CHILDREN!

Academic Planning

Academic Planning for Next Year
Last week, the students participated in the Academic Forum, which highlights new classes for next year. The course catalog for school year 2015-2016 next year is now on our website. Please start preparing for course selection days with your daughters by reviewing the catalog. Students will begin to select courses for next year on March 3.

Chamber Music Concert

Tickets are now on sale for the Chamber Music Concert:

Hearts & Kisses, an Elegant Evening with Candlelight, Chocolate, and Chamber Music presented by the Lovely and Talented Music Students of Elizabeth Seton High School. Dessert Buffet is included.

The concert is Friday, February 13 at 7:00 p.m.  Ticket prices are $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for students.  Reservations are required.  Call 301-864-4532, x 7125 for reservations.  Tickets can also be purchased in the Guidance Office during school hours.

Seating is at round tables with 6 - 8 per table.  Groups must reserve together to be guaranteed adjacent seats.

Seating is very limited, reserve early for best seats.

(This concert may not be suitable for very young children because the audience sits very close to the performers and interruptions or distractions during the music are disruptive to the performance.)

SAT Preparation Class

ESHS will be offering a SAT prep class for juniors that are interested in preparing for the May 2nd SAT.  The course will provide an introduction to the SAT format, effective strategies for answering questions, and rigorous coaching for each specific subject area tested.  A mailing with all of the information was sent in the mail last week.  Space is limited so make sure that your daughter brings her registration form and fee to the Guidance Office as soon as possible.  If you have any questions, please contact Amanda Lawhorne at alawhorne@setonhs.org or 301-864-4532.

Prom, Baccalaureate, Graduation Information

Athletics

If your daughter wishes to tryout for a spring sport (Lacrosse, Softball, Track, or Crew) she must have a current physical performed after June 1, 2014 on file in the clinic. Please ask your daughter to stop by the clinic if there are any questions.

2016 Summer Trip

In the summer of 2016 Mrs. Melissa Valentine will be taking 8 Seton students on a 2 week trip to work with scientists in the field, collecting data on the Island of Dominica. One week will be spent in the rainforest and one week will be on the coast studying the coral reef of this beautiful Caribbean island. We will be working with Operation Wallacea which has research sites like this one all around the world.
This is not a vacation, but it will be an amazing experience. Students will learn research techniques and the data collected will be used in research publications. This can help the students stand out on their college applications!
This trip is open to current Freshman, Sophomores, and Juniors but there are only 8 spots! The cost of the trip is approximately $3,400 and includes all travel, meals, accommodations, training, and even emergency medical and evacuation insurance. (This is a high estimate because the exact cost of the flights is unknown at this time). There will be fundraising opportunities and the organization will set up a payment plan for each student.
The trip dates are June 13 - 25, 2016.
Please see the link below for more information and contact Mrs. Valentine with any questions at mvalentine@setonhs.org.
We have until Friday January 30th to put together a list of interested students so please contact Mrs. Valentine by the 30th if you are interested!
