In the summer of 2016 Mrs. Melissa Valentine will be taking 8 Seton students on a 2 week trip to work with scientists in the field, collecting data on the Island of Dominica. One week will be spent in the rainforest and one week will be on the coast studying the coral reef of this beautiful Caribbean island. We will be working with Operation Wallacea which has research sites like this one all around the world. This is not a vacation, but it will be an amazing experience. Students will learn research techniques and the data collected will be used in research publications. This can help the students stand out on their college applications! This trip is open to current Freshman, Sophomores, and Juniors but there are only 8 spots! The cost of the trip is approximately $3,400 and includes all travel, meals, accommodations, training, and even emergency medical and evacuation insurance. (This is a high estimate because the exact cost of the flights is unknown at this time). There will be fundraising opportunities and the organization will set up a payment plan for each student. The trip dates are June 13 - 25, 2016. Please see the link below for more information and contact Mrs. Valentine with any questions at mvalentine@setonhs.org. We have until Friday January 30th to put together a list of interested students so please contact Mrs. Valentine by the 30th if you are interested! http://opwall.com/sixth-form-high-school/locations/dominica-school-expeditions/

If so, you are invited to a discussion and lunch at St. Camillus Church. Anticipating Pope Francis' environmental encyclical, the Care for Creation Committee of the Archdiocese of Washington and Catholic Climate Covenant wish to explore with you ways to galvanize young people in support of the climate justice by integrating faith and environmental science. Together we can empower our young people to be visionary agents of change who care for Creation and those most vulnerable to environmental harm: the poorest among us. The National Catholic Educators Association designates the last week in January for Catholic Schools Week. The theme is Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service. Schools across the country will be celebrating the unique nature of Catholic education in our country in many different ways. Students here at Seton have been working hard to create a week in which we celebrate our Catholic Heritage, acknowledge the many who make the school what it is, and the students themselves. Attached is an outline for the celebration - many other special things will happen in the course of the week. Please click here to view attachment.
