Freshman & Freshman Parent Meeting
Thursday, September 4th, 7:00 p.m.
Auditorium

Please join us as we share information, introduce key staff,
and formally welcome the Class of 2018
into the Elizabeth Seton High School Community.

Each freshman will recite the Honor Code
and receive a yellow rose - a symbol of their new beginning.
Reception to follow.

Water Main

The Boil Water Advisory continues to be on for our area.  In response to this situation, we are providing all our students with bottled water and bottled drinks at lunch at no charge to them, and we are also providing bottled water to our athletes after school.  Students are encouraged to bring any drinks that they like as the water fountains are restricted from use.  We have also asked students who have open wounds not to use the showers.

Back to School Night

Back to School Night
Thursday, September 11th at 7:00 p.m.

  • Parents should park in our lower lots or at the Bladensburg Community Center.  (Follow the directions of the volunteer traffic patrols.)  Please plan to arrive in time to be present for the general meeting in the auditorium which will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m. Scholars and their parents will meet at 6 in the auditorium.

  • Those parking at the Bladensburg Community Center will be shuttled to Seton starting at 6:15 p.m.

  • Bring your daughter's schedule because you will follow her schedule during the evening. There will be 7 minute passing times and 7 minute classes. Wear comfortable shoes since there will be walking up and down stairs and between buildings.

  • At dismissal one of our buses will transport guests back to the Bladensburg Community Center.
New Lunch Payment System

Our new lunch payment system is up and running, but there are a few points that we would like to share with you so that it can be a smooth operation:
  • Parents may still open an account to upload cafeteria money for their daughter. Please click here for the website and instructions.
  • The lunch system can only be used to purchase the full entrée from Ridgewells. It cannot be used to purchase side items from our cafeteria staff.
  • The cost for lunch is $5.50.  Therefore, please add increments of $5.50 into your account so that there is an even balance.
  • The system takes 24 hours to complete your deposit and to credit your account.
  • Parents are charged a $2.00 fee each time that they add money to the account. If you plan to purchase lunches for a long period of time, you may wish to add larger amounts to your account to avoid multiple processing fees.

We welcome Ms. Mackenzie Rawls, our new dance teacher and instructor for the Dance Team.  Mackenzie is an accomplished dancer who has performed both nationally and internationally.  She is a graduate of Holy Cross High School, but we are hoping to trade her purple for Seton's scarlet, gold, and white and make her a Roadrunner.
  2. We also welcome Mr. Bob Pizzano who will be teaching for Ms. Bogrash.  Mr. Pizzano is a retired Naval Engineer with an extensive background in math.  For more information on these classes, please CLICK HERE.
  3. Ms. Becky Taylor, our English teacher and Bailey Program Coordinator, has had her baby and will be returning by the end of the month.  Ms. Courtney Hunt, who has taught English for many years at Seton and has also served as Department Chair in English, is taking her English classes.  Sr. Charles, who works in the Bailey Program, is working with the Bailey students as is Ms. Tarnosky.

Seton Equestrian Club

The Seton Equestrian Club has moved to Hideaway Horse Center (www.hideawayhorsecenter.com) in Brandywine, MD!  The club runs both a competitive show team as well as a beginner practice, so you do not have to know how to ride to join the Equestrian Club.

For more advanced riders, the Seton Equestrian Club participates in 5-7 shows per year run by the Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA).  The IEA show series offers riders in grades 6th-12th a unique opportunity to compete in a sport that is normally not offered in schools.  Shows are held at local barns through Maryland and Virginia.  Through the IEA, students have the opportunity to earn scholarships towards their college education through awards in competition and through sportsmanship activities. For more information on the IEA, you can visit their website http://www.rideiea.org/about/index.html.

Equestrian Team practice will start the first week in September and club practice will start the first week in October.

Anyone interested in joining the team, should email Mrs. Bridget Rice or Ms. Rachel Turk at hideawayhorsecenter@yahoo.com for more information.

Top Colleges that Cost the Least.........

If you're a high school student whose parents make a combined $40,000 a year, you may think you don't have even a remote chance of being able to afford an elite, ultra-high-priced college like Harvard, Princeton or Stanford. But those schools have such large endowments ($32 billion, in Harvard's case), coupled with a commitment to making college affordable for any applicant who can overcome their challenging admissions requirements, that students from low-income households can expect to pay a fraction of the schools' sticker price of around $60,000.
