Parent - Teacher Conferences
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Thursday, February 28, 2013
4-6 p.m.
- Bring your daughter's report card or her schedule with you. These documents have the names of her teachers on them.
- Stop in the student lobby for a map that identifies where the teachers are located for conferences.
- If the teacher is engaged with another parent, wait a respectful distance away for your turn. It may not be possible to see all of your daughter's teachers. Select 3 or 4 that you REALLY, REALLY wish to see.
- Conferences are designed to be a BRIEF communication between parents and teachers.
- Each conference should last no longer than 5 minutes. If you have major concerns about your daughter's progress, schedule an appointment with the teacher for another day so that sufficient time can be devoted to her. Please be considerate of others in regard to time.
- Conferences will be concluded promptly at 6 p.m. Please conclude your discussion when Mrs. Pasterick announces that the conferences are over.
- If you do not get to see all of your daughter's teachers, call them or e-mail them, and they will call or e-mail you back.

Re-Registration
Information on re-registration will be available to parents in the parent announce as of March 6. Forms will be due back the week of April 15..

Phonathon

Seniors - Twilight Cruise

2013 - 2014 Course Selection
We're gearing up for scheduling classes for the 2013-2014 academic school year. As a result, your daughter will be meeting with guidance counselors over the next two weeks to discuss class placement and select possible electives. You will be able to view their core class placements on the parent portal next week. Please take the time to review these placements and the course catalog (available on the website on the Academics page or click here) with your daughter.

Spring SAT Prep Course for Juniors
The Guidance Department is coordinating a SAT Prep Course for Juniors to prepare for the May 4 SAT. Please click here to see the attached letter for details. The cost is $300 and is due February 25.

A French SAT II class (open to all students who have completed Honors French 4) meets every Wednesday at 3:00 in room 206.

St. Charles Borromeo Philippine Medical Mission (PMM) is a charitable, non-profit volunteer organization based in Arlington, Virginia that promotes the inherent rights of the poor and underprivileged in the Philippines. Working through established non-profit agencies in the Philippines, PMM provides the funding and resources necessary to provide those in need access to essential health care, educational opportunities, and life sustaining services. PMM also provides support to well-established non-governmental organizations at the forefront of responding to natural disasters and environmental calamities. Each year, PMM sponsors an essay contest for high school students . This year's theme encourages students to reflect on what it means to be one human family and the global implications of loving our neighbor in the spirit of faith and charity. The Marion T. "Mr. Bill" Service Scholarship is now available on the website to apply for under the Parent Club Organization. This scholarship is given to an applicant that has completed service above and beyond what is required by the school. HS Juniors: Class of 2014 U.S Coast Guard 2013 Summer Program
AIM Summer Program
It is important that you make an informed decision about applying to and attending the Coast Guard Academy. Our Academy Introduction Mission (AIM) is a one-week summer program that gives you the chance to see if the Academy is right for you, and if you have what it takes to succeed.
If you are selected, you will experience the rigor, discipline, and rewards of the Academy, just like a cadet, for a week in July following your junior year in high school. You will meet faculty and staff; learn about our academic, military, and athletic programs; talk with cadets who have sailed on Eagle, flown aircraft, and started their leadership journey; and meet with Coast Guard professionals who are protecting our nation right now. Success at AIM is a good indicator of success at the Coast Guard Academy. Typically 50% of students appointed to the Academy attended AIM.The AIM 2013 application is now open. Before applying, please review the eligibility requirements to ensure you can apply for the AIM program this year.

2013 Camp Cardiac-Washington, DC
Scholarship and standard applications are now open for 2013 Camp Cardiac-Washington, DC ! This 1-week summer day camp is open to high school students (including 2013 graduates) ages 15 years and older (as of the start of the camp) interested in exploring careers in medicine. With a focus on both education and real world experience, Camp Cardiac provides students with a unique opportunity to learn directly from experts in the medical field. In addition, this 1-week summer day camp provides a foundation for heart healthy living with an emphasis on both diet and exercise. Although Camp Cardiac's primary focus is on care and maintenance of the heart, it provides an excellent starting point for careers in all fields of medicine. 2013 Youth Law Fair - Bully Proof

SPICE Camp
The application for SPICE Camp (Students with Potential and Interest, Considering Engineering) is now available at http://www.wie.umd.edu/k12/spice-camp. There are only spots for 20 girls! This camp is open to girls entering grades 9 and 10 in fall 2013 and is a joint program between the Women in Engineering Program and the Center for Minorities in Science and Engineering.
