Size Up a Ceiling Fan

Blade size:
36 in for rooms up to 100 sq ft
42 in for rooms up to 200 sq ft
52 in for rooms up to 400 sq ft

Ensure 18 in clearance from walls

Hang 8 ft above the floor.  If your headroom is less than 9 ft, choose a hugger-style ceiling fan.  For ceilings above 9 ft, purchase a downrod.

If you are replacing an existing light fixture with a ceiling fan, call an electrician to ensure that the ceiling can support the weight of a fan, and that the electrical box is fan-rated.

Is Your Bathroom Ventilation Fan Working Properly?

Inspect your fan for dust buildup

that can impede airflow.  Particles of moisture-laden animal dander and lint are attracted to the fan because of its static charge. 
 

To clean your fan:  switch off the power, then remove the cover and wash it with dish soap.  Use a damp rag to wipe the fan blades clean. Dry all parts before re-assembling.
