Hello Friend,
Winter is finally giving way as spring begins to take hold all around us! Fresh buds on the trees and early blooming flowers seem to pop up every day to inspire us and remind us that life is a constant process of renewal and regeneration.
Spring is a fantastic time to embrace some new habits and practices to improve our health and wellbeing.
I want to share with you an article by Alfred James, " 21 Mindful Habits You Can Adopt Today." This is a powerful list of easy to implement practices that will increase your sense of inner peace and well being and reduce your stress. There is something for everyone on this list.
You don't need to take on all 21 of the habits in order to have a positive impact on your life - just start with one and see where it takes you. In fact, in Mr. James' first practice, he encourages us to:
Develop One Habit at a Time
The first habit is to start your journey slowly. Choose one positive habit and keep at it until it becomes so natural that not a day goes past without it naturally arising.
This is excellent advice. The goal of this type of endeavor is to de-stress and come more fully into the peace of the present moment. If we pile a bunch more items on our to-do list we go in the opposite direction!
A couple of my favorite suggestions in this article are:
Feel your Feet and Palms
Clench your hands into tight fists and release. Clench. Release. Clench. Release. Do the same thing with your toes. And if that's too much dexterity, just wiggle your toes. This is one of the physical anchors of self-awareness capable of bringing you into the present moment.
Meditate or Queue Up
If you can't meditate because you're short on time, choose the longest queue in the store. Having to wait is one of the best ways to accept your place in the moment.
Do yourself a favor and check out this article. Put one new 'habit' into practice today!
