Spring is Here! Time for New Beginnings
April 2016
Hello Friend,

Winter is finally giving way as spring begins to take hold all around us! Fresh buds on the trees and early blooming flowers seem to pop up every day to inspire us and remind us that life is a constant process of renewal and regeneration.

Spring is a fantastic time to embrace some new habits and practices to improve our health and wellbeing.

I want to share with you an article by Alfred James, "21 Mindful Habits You Can Adopt Today."  This is a powerful list of easy to implement practices that will increase your sense of inner peace and well being and reduce your stress. There is something for everyone on this list.

You don't need to take on all 21 of the habits in order to have a positive impact on your life - just start with one and see where it takes you. In fact, in Mr. James' first practice, he encourages us to:

Develop One Habit at a Time
The first habit is to start your journey slowly. Choose one positive habit and keep at it until it becomes so natural that not a day goes past without it naturally arising.

This is excellent advice. The goal of this type of endeavor is to de-stress and come more fully into the peace of the present moment. If we pile a bunch more items on our to-do list we go in the opposite direction!

A couple of my favorite suggestions in this article are:

Feel your Feet and Palms
Clench your hands into tight fists and release. Clench. Release. Clench. Release. Do the same thing with your toes. And if that's too much dexterity, just wiggle your toes. This is one of the physical anchors of self-awareness capable of bringing you into the present moment.

Meditate or Queue Up
If you can't meditate because you're short on time, choose the longest queue in the store. Having to wait is one of the best ways to accept your place in the moment.

Do yourself a favor and check out this article. Put one new 'habit' into practice today!

What Have I Been Up To?

It has been a busy past few months for me. Despite my best intentions, writing my newsletter sometimes slips down on my list of priorities.

I've been very busy teaching and lecturing. Most recently I spoke at the Connecticut Naturopathic Physicians Association Annual Convention on "Childhood Trauma and Adult Disease: How Biography Becomes Biology."

I was honored to be included by Health Masters Live in their Fertility Master Class last month. I taught a "Mindfulness for Fertility" session that instructs doctors about using Mindfulness as part of their treatment for patients who are struggling with Infertility Issues.

Health Masters Live is bringing me back for another Webinar Series in July, dealing with Mind-Body Integrative Medicine and Mindfulness for treatment of cancer. Stay tuned for more information on that fabulous training for Naturopathic Physicians.

I am excited to announce that I will be offering a Yoga Vacation Program at the Sivananda Yoga Ashram Retreat in the Bahamas! November 10 - 13, 2016.

My program is entitled:

This is a fantastic opportunity to combine a nurturing, restorative vacation with yoga and some deep inner work to facilitate healing and wellness. If you're looking for a get-a-way and a chance to improve your health and wellness, please join me!
