Last PTCC Volunteer Slot Needs Filling!
The PCMS Parent Teacher Charter Council has a ONLY ONE remaining vacant committee chair. Please consider how you can help by taking on the role of:
Merchant Rebates/Partners in Education: This opportunity is terrific for most parents because it does not require much time at school. This committee chair will use the PCMS communication tools to educate parents on the various rebate programs that generate passive revenue for our school. The ideal volunteer will track the financial results from these programs, continue to build and maintain relationships with our Partners in Education, and recognize our partnerships by maintaining display cases and communicating their support to the PCMS community.
Contact PTCC Executive Committee Chair Julia LeDoyen julialedoyen@comcast.net with questions or to express your commitment! Don't delay!

Peachtree Student Brings Mars to Earth
Spotlight on PCMS 8th grader, Randolph Franco.
Randolph participates in year-round tutorials that introduce him to advanced concepts in math, science, reading, critical thinking, and research projects. In March, Randolph and a group of other students from
the Dunwoody/Sa
ndy Springs area submitted a proposal to the European Space Agency to point their orbiting Mars spacecraft at a specific feature on Mars and image it. Proposals were accepted from all of Europe, the United States, Argentina, and Australia. Randolph's proposal, along with 19 others, was selected. Randolph and his team chose to image the Martian Southern Polar Cap. They collaborated with engineers (via Google H
angouts) in the flight control center of the European Space Agency to point the spacecraft at their intended target. The resulting raw images were sent to the group. Randolph and his team downloaded, learned and implemented various simulation and image processing software to convert and process the raw images into beautiful displays of the Martian South Pole. Additionally, the team conducted research on Earth's South Pole and created a comparison/contrast. The group created a final presentation, which the ESA has published on their website. One of the students in Randolph's group was profiled and recognized by the Fulton County Superintendent, and Channel 2 news has recently shown interest in doing a story on the group's work. This is a wonderful representation of the types of extracurricular activities in which PCMS students are engaging. Congratulations Randolph!
The final presentation is on the ESA website at http://blogs.esa.int/mex/ under the subheading "Aspiration Creation". Click on the "Project PPT in Website" link under the subheading to view the entire presentation.
