Attention all students and parents who have medications (prescription, non-prescription, emergency and rescue) on file currently in the clinic. ALL medications must be picked up by a PARENT no later than the last day of school (Friday, May 22nd). The clinic will be closed for the summer and any remaining medications will be disposed of at the end of the day on the 22nd.

Please let us know if you have any questions. We can be reached in the clinic at 678-676-7707 from 10 am - 2:30 pm daily.

ACE Bandages Needed ASAP!
The clinic is CRITICALLY low on Ace wrap bandages. Please consider donating a few (or a lot) ASAP. We use them all the time and the coming week's Patriot Games are going to deplete our very small supply. Thanks in advance for your help.

PCMS Foundation Looking for Financial Secretary
Are you detail oriented or like to work with numbers?  Do you want to work with a wonderful team of PCMS administrators and parents?  We have broken down the Treasurer function into three positions so that no one is overloaded.  One of the positions is the Financial Secretary for the Foundation.  This position is a two year commitment.  In the first year, the Financial Secretary coordinates the check-out table at Registration processing all checks, cash and credit card payments made during Registration, and works closely with the Treasurer to develop and monitor the operating budget for the Foundation.  The Financial Secretary also attends both the monthly PCMS Foundation meetings and the monthly PTCC meetings.  After a year in training, the Financial Secretary then becomes the Treasurer for both the Foundation and the PTCC in the second year.  Knowledge of Excel and Quickbooks is helpful.  This position is a great way to get involved with PCMS!  Please contact Kristy Pierce at pcms.foundation.treasurer@gmail.com if interested.

Reminder about Cell Phones
Dear Parents,

While cell phones are helpful to us all, they have become a hindrance during classroom instruction. We have noticed an increasing number of students having their cell phones out in the building. The only time phones should be out in the classroom is when the teacher allows it. When phones are seen they must be confiscated. All phones must be turned off before entering the building and are not to be taken out again until they are dismissed. We ask that  you to please go over the rules with your child concerning cell phones.

Patriot Games are May 11th,13th,15th. Cell phones are not allowed at the Games at all.  All cell phones need to stay in students lockers. If students are not comfortable with keeping their phones in their locker, we suggest that they do not bring them to school.

We appreciate your support in this matter.

8th Grade Dance

Dear 8th grade parents,

This year's 8th grade exit dance will take place on Friday, May 15th from 6-9 PM in the PCMS gym. The theme is "A Red Carpet Affair." This is a great opportunity for students to create lasting memories before they leave for high school. Tickets are $10 and will be sold Monday, May 11th  through Thursday, May 14th during 8th grade lunch.

Dress code: The theme is primarily for decorations and atmosphere, not dress. Students do not have to dress up as if they are walking down the red carpet. While students do not have to dress formally, we prefer for students not to wear jeans. Girls may wear dresses, and boys can wear nice pants and a shirt. Please do not hesitate to email me if you have any questions regarding dress code!

I have enclosed a link for sign up genius to ask for volunteers for the day of the dance. We have slots for the following areas:

  •     4pm-6pm- help set up decorations in the gym
  •     6pm-7:30pm- work the concession stand; hand out refreshments
  •    7:30pm-9pm- work the concession stand; hand out refreshments
  •     6:30pm-9pm- help chaperone the dance in the gym

If you are not available to volunteer, we would appreciate donations for the concession stand. Please label refreshments as "8th grade dance" and drop off in the front office up until May 13th.  We would be grateful for the following refreshments: bags of chips, cans of soda, candy bars, baked goods, etc. All refreshments are included in the price of the dance ticket. Pizza will be offered as well.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at Jessica_gazzola@dekalbschoolsga.org.  I am looking forward to a great night!

Regards,

Jessica Gazzola

Next Year's PTCC Executive Board

Below is the slate of candidates for the 2015 - 2016 Parent Teacher Charter Council. We will have ballots at the school for parents to approve the slate or not for one more week. We will have six new members on the board, please allow them to introduce themselves to you.

Emily Ceo - I am the mother of Jackson Ceo - 6th grader at Peachtree Middle School and Ava Ceo - 1st grader at Dunwoody Elementary.   In 1996 I graduated from West Virginia University with a degree in Early Childhood Education.  I left the teaching profession in 2002, after I had my first child but re-entered the workforce in 2012, when I opened the North American Headquarters for an Australian IT company, SpinifexIT.  Although I work full time, my flexible work environment allows me to stay involved in my children's schools and activities.  I have served on PTO @ DES as Teacher Appreciation Co-Chair and currently serve as Yearbook Chair. This year at Peachtree Middle I have enjoyed volunteering as an office helper.  I look forward to becoming more involved at Peachtree Middle School and would welcome the opportunity to serve on the PTCC.

Kim Chatman - I am a past PTA president at Kittredge Magnet School. I have a rising 7th grader at PCMS and look forward to serving on the Executive Board of the PTCC. I am a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Delta Sigma Theta.

Mythreyi Joshi  - My name is Mythreyi Joshi and I have been a resident of Dunwoody since 1998. I work as a Data Scientist at Farmlink. I have three children one each at Vanderlyn, PCMS and DHS. I have been involved with Dunwoody schools for the last 10 years. At Vanderlyn I have been on the PTA Executive board as a Secretary and have been a Room parent for years. At DHS I am responsible for the Media Center volunteers. When my older daughter was at PCMS, I managed the volunteers in the Attendance Office. I was very involved with the Drama Club. This will be a wonderful opportunity for me to get more involved at Peachtree Charter Middle School. I want all the Dunwoody area schools to be successful and perform well. I am also actively involved in a lot of activities in our community.

Susie Lanham- I have a rising 6th grader and a graduating 8th grader from PCMS.   At  Vanderlyn  I was the chair of the Math Olympiad and at PCMS I chaired the School Climate Award.  I recently took a sabbatical from work at Deloitte consulting to spend more time with my family.  I have 18 years experience with management consulting in the area of strategy and operations and 7 years at BOA in corporate banking.  I obtained a BS in finance from Clemson University and an MBA from UNC Chapel Hill.  I enjoy running, tennis and gardening.

Julia LeDoyen -  I am a mother of 2 sons, rising 7th and 5th graders.  I have a variety of experience volunteering with Vanderlyn PTA:  co-president for 2 years, VanderDash chair, Hospitality committee, Dunwoody-Chamblee Parent Council representative.  I successfully guided VES through a transition from a PTA to PTO, including creating and submitting paperwork necessary to obtain 501(c)3 status.  I set new VanderDash records by increasing profitability of this community event by additional 30% and 20% greater student participation.

Mary Margaret Warshaw -  My name is Mary Margaret Warshaw. My husband and I have 3 children (2 at Vanderlyn and 1 at Peachtree).  I have taught elementary school for a total of 12 years. Most recently, I taught at Dunwoody Elementary school. While teaching at DES, I was elected to serve on the School Council for 2 years as a teacher representative.  I also was the grade chair for my 2nd grade team.  Currently, I am a stay at home mom that wants to volunteer at PCMS.
