Attention 8th Grade Parents & Students:

 

Fernbank's Scientific Tools and Techniques (STT) Program information and applications for the upcoming school year will be sent home today with interested 8th graders through science classes. The application materials must be turned in by Friday, February 20, to the following teachers:

 

Team Burdette and Team Posey will return forms to Mrs. Johnson in room 822.

Team Gazzola and Team Moss will return forms to Mr. Daniell in room 828.

 

All students and parents interested in the 2015-2016 Scientific Tools & Techniques (STT) Program at Fernbank are invited to an open house at Fernbank Science Center on Thursday, February 5.

 

Refreshments will be served at 6:30 pm, and the meeting starts at 7 pm.

World Language Option - LATIN

  

The Counseling Office is now in the process of inviting 7th grade students not currently in a World Language to let us know if they would like to take Latin for high school credit in 8th grade.

 

The criteria for an invitation are a B or better in Language Arts on the 1st semester Report Card AND a score of 70% or higher on the STAR Reading testing taken in January, 2015. The Latin letters were sent home to eligible students on Friday, Feb. 6, 2015.


Latin letters must be returned to the Counseling Office by Thursday, Feb. 10, 2015. Do NOT return the letter to a teacher: all letters must be returned directly to the Counseling Office. Any letters received after Feb. 10 will be placed on a waiting list for available seats. If a letter is not received at all, the student will take ELT in 8th grade.

 

In order for students to be placed in the Latin class next year, they must maintain the grade of B or better in Language Arts for 2nd semester, and must test at 70% on the STAR Reading in April 2015.
