Recycle Bin
Our recycle bin is located behind the school and we've noticed a significant amount of recycling materials being placed there. This is a great! We only ask that you do not place materials directly in front of the bin due to the driver not being able to pick up the bin to empty. Please place all materials on either side of the bin but not directly in front. We thank you for your assistance.
School Clinic
As most of you know, Mrs. Wood, our clinic nurse has moved out of the DeKalb area. PCMS is very happy for her as she begins a new chapter in her life. It also raises the question, "How are we going to address the medical needs of our students?"  Ms. King from the attendance office will work in the clinic form 10:00-2:00 daily, until the Foundation has found a replacement for Ms. Wood.
Cell Phones
Parents, we are asking for your help with the use of cell phones in the building. We are having numerous phones taken up throughout the week. Once students enter the building they must put away their phones. If a student is given permission to use their phone for instructional purposes in the classroom, then before leaving that classroom they should put away their phone. The protocol for each offense is listed below. We thank you for your assistance.

  * 1st Offense - Teachers turn in the phones to Ms. King in the
    attendance office. The phone must be logged by the teacher. The phone
    is labeled with the student's name, the teachers name and the date of
    confiscation. Students may pick up their phone at the end of the day
    (3:50 PM) but never during class time. At the end of the day all
    phones will be given to Ms. Sellers in the main office. Phones not
    picked up by 4:30, will be held until the following morning.

  *  2nd Offense - Teachers turn in the phones to Ms. King in the
    attendance office. The phone must be logged by the teacher. The phone
    is labeled with the student's name, the teachers name and the date of
    confiscation. The phone will be held until a parent or guardian is
    available to pick up the phone. At the end of the day (3:50 PM), all
    phones will be given to Ms. Sellers in the main office.

  *  3rd Offense - Teachers turn in the phones to Ms. King in the
    attendance office. The phone must be logged by the teacher. The phone
    is labeled with the student's name, the teacher's name and the date of
    confiscation. Once the phone is logged, Ms. King will turn the phone
    over to the grade level AP and the AP will submit a referral. At this
    point, all contact will be between the AP and the parent.

The Atlanta Families' Awards for Excellence in Education
Parents - Nominations Open November 7!

DeKalb County School District announces its partnership with the Atlanta Families' Awards for Excellence in Education (AFAEE), a program that recognizes outstanding teachers and school leaders in districts across Metro Atlanta.  Parents, staff and even students can submit nominations for teachers and administrators. AFAEE recipients earn a $7,500 award by demonstrating excellence in three areas:

* increasing student achievement
* enhancing students' self-esteem
* collaborating with key stakeholders

As a winner, the $7,500 includes funding for a school project of your choice ($3,500), funding for a professional development opportunity ($1,500), and a personal stipend ($2,500). Applicants must complete essays aligned to the award criteria along with a project proposal. The project proposal is the educator's opportunity to imagine an initiative that meets a need in the classroom, school, or
community. In order to be eligible for the award, DeKalb County Schools teachers, assistant principals, and principals (charter and traditional) must have at least two years' experience at their district school.

Nominations will open November 7, 2014 through January 9, 2015, and the application deadline will be February 13, 2015. Winners are also required to remain at the district school the year after receiving the award as well as complete professional development and project requirements and contribute to efforts of the AFAEE Winners' Circle.

Since 2006, 97 educators have garnered this prestigious award and over $2 million dollars have been given to classrooms, schools and communities throughout Metro Atlanta.
