Girl Code

Attention all parents of 6th-8th grade girls! Do you recognize that middle school can be three years of difficult transition? Do you wish your daughter had someone older that she could look up to and depend on when seeking help and/or advice? Well, a new club at Dunwoody High School, called Girl Code, has begun to offer just those things. Girl Code is comprised of 11th & 12th grade girls whose goal is to make these transitional years not only smoother and easier but more fun as well. So if you believe this club could be beneficial to your daughter, contact Ariella Tsfoni at [email protected] or at 770-375-8348  for more information.

eNews Committee Members Wanted
We are currently a two person committee and would like to expand to four.  If you are interested in joining our committee we would love to have you.  We rotate the PCMS eNews responsibilities each month.  With four people each person would only have to handle the eNews once every four months!  We will train you but you should have good typing and proofreading skills, be able to check email frequently during your assigned month, and have access to a computer/internet.  This would NOT be a good fit for you if your youngest child is currently in 8th grade.  We want to train someone who can help for 1-2 more school years.

If interested please email us at [email protected]

Odyssey of the Mind - Help Needed!

Attention: Any students and parents that are interested in forming an Odyssey of the Mind team at Peachtree. We are in need of more students and at least ONE parent sponsor to lead our school's team in a very fun, competitive club. (Ms. Smith is the teacher sponsor, but the rules require a parent sponsor, too.)

Odyssey of the Mind teaches students to learn creative problem-solving methods while having fun in the process. By tapping into creativity and encouraging imaginative paths to problem-solving. Students learn skills that will provide them with the ability to solve problems -- great and small -- for a lifetime. It also teaches students how to think divergently by providing open-ended problems that appeal to a wide range of interests.

Students learn how to identify challenges and to think creatively to solve those problems. They are free to express their ideas and suggestions without fear of criticism. The creative problem-solving process rewards thinking "outside of the box." Peachtree has won many awards, including a berth to the National Competition two years ago.

Please email Laurie Smith if interested:  [email protected]

PSAT

The PSAT will be given on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 to 8th graders who opt to take the test. The test is offered for practice. It is NOT required, but is highly recommended for students who are college-bound. The test will be given here at Peachtree during the regular school day. Many students have already paid for the PSAT on Registration Day. If your
child is "paid," they received the PSAT Student Handbook through their 5th period teacher on Thursday, August 28th.

Ms. Poh will take payments for the PSAT every morning in September from 8:30- 8:50.   The fee is $17, exact change.   Cash only. Fee waivers are available for students with financial need.  Contact Ms. Poh if a fee waiver is needed.

Payments and waiver requests will be accepted throughout the month of September in Ms. Poh's office in the counseling area.  PSAT payments may NOT be dropped off at the Main Office. The Counseling Office will NOT be responsible for any cash placed in mailboxes. Payments for the PSAT are taken by Ms. Poh in the Counseling Office every morning in September from 8:30-8:50. Only then will a receipt and a PSAT Student Handbook be given.
