Parent Teacher Charter Council (PTCC) Elections for the 2014-2015 Academic Year

Parents will be able to vote in the front office April 28th - 29th or online April 27th-April 29th.  An online voting link will be sent out in our enewsletter on April 27th - April 29th.  You may vote if you currently have a student attending PCMS.

Parents will elect three (3) candidates to represent the parents and students of Peachtree Charter Middle School on the Executive Council.

Candidates for the 2014-2016 Parent Teacher Charter Council  to serve a two year term are:

  Bill Florence

Bill Florence is a skilled communicator, specializing in the practice of public affairs, crisis management, and corporate social responsibility. He served as Director of Public Affairs for InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), the world's largest hotel company, with responsibility for the hospitality giant's North American public affairs, government relations, and community relations activities. Florence previously worked with Atlanta's leading public affairs agency, representing both private and public-sector clients, including The Coca-Cola Company, Georgia Municipal Association, and BellSouth Telecommunications. A graduate of The University of Georgia and Mercer University's School of Law, Florence spent nine years practicing law, primarily as an Assistant District Attorney in the Clayton Judicial Circuit. Florence also has served as an ongoing writer and columnist for The Dunwoody Crier newspaper. A native Atlantan, he and his family have lived in Dunwoody since 2001. Daughter, Amanda, is a Sixth-Grade student at Peachtree Charter Middle School, and son, Will, is in Fifth Grade at Vanderlyn Elementary.

Renate Herod

Renate Herod has been married to Chris for 23 years and has two boys, Ethan (9th grade at DHS) and Sasha (7th grade at PCMS).  She volunteers in the offices of both schools and has previously been PTA president at Chesnut and Kittredge. Renate has served in a variety of volunteer positions at Chesnut, Kittredge, Chamblee Middle, Peachtree and Dunwoody High. She was also recording secretary for DCPC for two years. Renate is a Planning Commissioner for the City of Dunwoody and has chaired/volunteered for many events in Dunwoody. Prior to being a stay-at-home mom, Renate worked at CNN for 18 years.

(Renate has agreed to chair for 2014-2015 and will serve a one year term, as her son graduates PCMS in 2015.)

Tina Wilkinson

Tina Wilkinson has two children at PCMS: Ben (7th) and Anna (6th). Currently, she serves on the executive board of Chorus and is a member of the Living Classroom committee.  Tina initiated the current gift card fundraiser for Chorus and is leading the effort to incorporate planting and harvesting into our Health curriculum.  At Vanderlyn Elementary, she served on school council for four years (chaired in 2013), founded and chaired the Organic Garden program, chaired Lunch Bunch committee, and co-chaired the Environmental Education and Wellness Committees.  As chair of Vanderlyn's Organic Garden program, Tina founded the program and oversaw its expansion to include activities for 650 students annually. She expanded the Lunch Bunch program to provide for a parent volunteer in the cafeteria daily.  As co-chair of Environmental Ed, Wilkinson started recycling programs for printer cartridges, cell phones, drink pouches, and crayons. The Wellness Committee successfully advocated for salads for students and submitted the winning application to DCSS for capital improvements to Vanderlyn's bathrooms.  Before her children, Tina was a corporate banker at Wachovia Bank from 1989 to 2000. Her most recent position was Senior Vice President of Risk Management in the International Department with responsibilities for Europe, Turkey, & Israel.

Backpack Donations Needed!

As you clean out your closets this spring, please consider donating your gently used backpacks to Camp Jenny. Camp Jenny is a camp for inner-city Atlanta elementary school students held each year over Memorial Day weekend. The students come to camp free of charge, having earned their seat on the bus by attending school, behaving appropriately, and putting forth their best effort in all of their school work. They are provided backpacks by the camp in order to have something in which to pack their belongings.

Our goal is to collect 150 backpacks. Donation boxes will be in the school lobby near the security desk until the end of April. If you have any questions about Camp Jenny, please feel free to contact 6th grader, Jordan Limor, or his mom, Judy, at [email protected]. Thanks!
