Peer Proofing at PCMS

Another great Peer Proofing session is coming to all current 6th, 7th, and 8th grade health classes on December 5th and 6th.  If you don't know what Peer Proofing is, it's a thought-provoking, conversation-inducing, character-building two-day class facilitated by parent volunteers for all PCMS students during their one-term health class each academic year.  Under the guidance of parent facilitators and the PCMS health instructors, students first view videos produced by Connect with Kids that help them consider how they can positively deal with challenging peer issues. Then kids examine practical application of what they've learned from the videos and in-class discussion.

Topics covered are grade specific:  6th grade students talk about bullying and how they behave when no one is looking; 7th grade students talk about what stresses them out; and 8th grade students talk about decision making.

The goals of the Peer Proofing program at PCMS are:  1) to give students an opportunity to talk about topics that concern them, 2) to help students to recognize how their peers influence their decision making, and 3) to challenge students to consider the potential consequences of their choices.  We aim to equip kids with information and resources that can help them make healthier choices, and we encourage them to talk to you about what they've learned.

If you have any questions about the Peer Proofing program at PCMS, or if you are interested in helping as a parent volunteer, please contact Elana Morris at [email protected] or Bill McDonald at [email protected].
