Peer Proofing is a unique volunteer activity that allows parents to work directly in the classroom.  It's a program facilitated by PCMS parents during health class, for all 6th, 7th and 8th graders.  Special character building videos by Connect with Kids are shown that encourage candid classroom conversations to help the students understand and manage peer issues such as bullying, stress and anxiety, and risky behaviors.  The program takes place two days during each of the four quarters that health is provided so that we have the opportunity to work with every child in the school.  Our goal as facilitators is to encourage the students to openly discuss the topics, recognize the potential influence of their peers and understand possible consequences.  We try to leave them with tools and information on the topics that will help them to make better and healthier choices. Volunteers are provided with a written curriculum, an in-person overview of the program, and new volunteers are paired with experienced facilitators to give them the opportunity to learn the program.

Requirements:

* Available during all or part of the school day for 2 days each quarter

* Comfortable facilitating a classroom of middle school kids

* Desire to connect with and mentor middle school kids
