Parent-Teacher Open House

Plan to come out and meet your child's teachers at the upcoming Parent Teacher Open House.  The evening begins with a short meeting in the cafeteria with Principal Heptinstall, and then parents will proceed to their child's 5th period class for homeroom.  You will then follow your child's schedule, spending 10 minutes in each class, and rotating classrooms on a bell schedule just like your student!

Students and siblings do not need to attend, as all desks will be filled with parents.

A Word from the PTCC

Dear Peachtree Charter Middle School Parents,

On behalf of the Parent Teacher Charter Council (PTCC), we hope your child had a great start to their year at PCMS.

This year at registration we did not offer paper sign ups to join school activity committees.  PTCC went "green" and converted to an online form to sign up to volunteer and get involved at Peachtree!  Please take a moment and fill out your interests at http://tinyurl.com/pcmsvolunteer.   Your name and email will be sent to the checked committee chairs, for them to contact you to volunteer at specific events.

A big thank you to our Registration Chair, Peggy Bynum, and our Teacher and Staff Appreciation Co-Chairs, Jenn Cohen and Kristy Whitener, and to all of the parents who helped work registration and brought all the goodies to the Teacher Appreciation Breakfast. PCMS is a wonderful school because of the teamwork between the parents, teachers, and administration!

Change at Peachtree

Due to the overwhelming number of items dropped off last year in the Attendance and Main Office, we found it necessary to make changes for this school year.

Responsibility is a very important skill for middle school students to accept and to practice. To help our students learn responsibility we do not allow items such as projects, homework, clothes, shoes, book bags, pencil cases, books or uniforms to be dropped off for delivery to the students. This will help keep interruptions in the classroom to a minimum. Please keep in mind when a classroom is interrupted it not only takes your

child off task but all classmates as well.

The items that we will accept for delivery are; eye glasses, medications and lunches. However, fast food items or other commercial items for lunch are not allowed.

Thank you for your support.

Scott Heptinstall and the PCMS Administrative Staff

Dunwoody Chamblee Parents Council

The Dunwoody Chamblee Parents Council (DCPC) brings parents, principals, teachers, school board members, school officials, and legislators together to discuss topics that affect public schools in our community. The DCPC serves the both the Dunwoody and Chamblee High Schools and their feeder schools. The DCPC meets monthly on the first Wednesday of the month, starting with refreshments at 8:45 am. The meeting starts at 9:15 am. and ends by 10:30 A.M. Meetings are held at various schools within the area. The topic of the meeting varies from month to month.

Mark your calendars for our first meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 4th at Dunwoody High School.  Interim Superintendent Michael Thurmond will be our speaker.

Online Math Textbook Access Information

We are excited to begin the use of the Carnegie Learning textbook series as we continue our exploration of the common core mathematics curriculum.  While the book is consumable, it also comes with online access to all the materials for those students who sometimes forget to bring the book home!  Information regarding how to register for an account will come home with your student during the first few days of school.  If you have not seen this information by Wednesday, please contact your child's math teacher and ask that an addtional copy be sent home.

Mandatory Volunteer Training

The State of Georgia Mandatory Reporting Law was revised expanding the listing of persons who are now categorized as mandated reporters of child abuse and neglect.  This list now includes anyone who volunteers in a school.

To ensure that all school volunteers are aware of the new responsibilities and penalties associated with non-compliance, ALL VOLUNTEERS ARE REQUIRED BY LAW to go through a brief training presentation created by DeKalb County Schools on the mandatory reporting of abuse and neglect and what it means to be a mandated reporter.

The training MUST be completed before volunteering. You must also complete the certificate affirming that you have watched the video presentation and understand your obligations as a mandated reporter.  Volunteers must update this training each school year.

Both the presentation and certificate can be accessed from the school website at http://www.peachtreechartermiddleschool.org/mandatory-online-volunteer-training.html

If you have any questions regarding the presentation or your obligations as a reporter, please contact the school's social worker.

Log Your Volunteer Hours

Did you register your child for PCMS?

Did you donate to the PCMS Annual Fund?

Did you attend the 6th grade Q&A?

Did you wait in line for spirit wear, gym clothes or checkout?

The answer is probably YES!  If so, then you've already earned at least an hour of volunteer time.  As part of our Charter requirements, each family is required to complete and document 10 hours each school year.  Don't forget that every $10 donated (monetarily or supplies) equals 1 volunteer hour!

Don't delay -- do it today!  It's quick and easy.

Click on the link to get started.  If you're new to PCMS, you'll need to need to register (directions on the website via the link).  If you're already registered, you can log in and track your hours directly within the PCMS website.

Volunteers Needed for Attendance Office

Volunteers are needed in the PCMS Attendance Office to help with late check ins and early check outs of students, change of dismissal authorization, retrieval of phone messages and other light office duties.  Shifts are 1 1/2 hours (8.30am to 10am or 12.30pm to 2pm).   Helping out in the Attendance Office is an excellent way to earn your volunteer hours, while getting to know PCMS.   Please contact Louise Headland at [email protected] if you are interested.
