1)   Thursday, August 1, 2013, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, is reserved exclusively for 6th grade parents to register their children.

2)  Friday, August 2, 2013, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, the students will attend an orientation program consisting of several sessions such as: appropriate use of the locker and agenda planner, extracurricular activities available, and a scavenger hunt throughout the building. Participation in the PCMS Summer Bridge program is optional, but highly recommended.  There is no cost for the program; however, you must pre-register your student in order for them to attend the Friday sessions.  To register, please fill out the form on the attached flyer, detach and return to the main office of your child's school by Friday, May 10th.

DeKalb County School System
High School Junior Varsity Water Polo Fall Season 2013

Current 8th grade students - rising 9th graders - interested in playing junior varsity water polo for the DeKalb County School System during the 2013 season need to contact the school system's faculty representative - William Shrader - by email at [email protected] to state their interest in participation. This must be done by the end of this school year - May 2013.

Also, all players must have a new DeKalb County School System (DCSS) physical form completed by a certified health employee by July 1, 2013. No physicals with a certified health employee signature and date before April 1, 2013 can be accepted. No players can wait until their yearly physical if that date is after July 1, 2013 to get a new competed form for School Year 13-14. Please look at the top of the DCSS physical form for reference to this policy date. DCSS physical forms can be downloaded and printed from your school's website. Once at website, go to "Sports" for the download.

The 2013 season begins the first week in August with practices beginning July 8th, so coaches must know who is participating on the team before the end of the 2012-2013 school year. Thank you and look forward to hearing from all interested players soon.

Patriot Games Concession

Donations Needed

The Independent Living Special Education classes of Ms. Abraham, Mrs. Moore, Ms. Magness and Mr. Callahan will be running the Concession Stand at the Peachtree Charter Middle School Patriot Games on May 15th, May 16th and May17th.

Our students are being taught skills to develop independence in school, home, and community environments.  We strongly believe that domestic, daily living, and community skills training are of vital importance for our students.  In order for our students to meet their instructional goals and objectives more effectively, we have included a variety of functional skills, such as cooking, shopping, and ordering food from a restaurant in our academic program.  Through these activities, our students will be given hands on experience within real life settings. The money that is raised from the concession stand will be used throughout the school year to help offset the cost of these instructional experiences for our
students.

You may send in specific items (listed below) or money for us to purchase the items that we need.  Items can be found at Costco and Sam's as well as your favorite grocery store. (All items should come in prepackaged, individual sizes ready to sell.)

Some items that we need include:
  •    12 oz. cans of soft drinks
  •    Individual Bags of Chips, Hot Fries, Hot Cheetos, Doritos, etc.
  •    Sour Punch Straws (red, blue, green, pink)
  •    Skittles (regular or sour) and Starbursts
  •    Airheads and Airheads Extreme
  •    Bottles of water
Please send in your donation to the Front Office (labeled "Patriot Games Concession Stand") by Monday, May 13th so that we can plan accordingly. Please remember to log your donation to count for your PTCC volunteer hours.

Thank you in advance for your support and cooperation as we strive to develop better educational programs for our very special students.

Georgia College 411 for 8th Graders

In the next few weeks, the 8th grade students will be completing additional information on the state-operated website for Georgia College 411. They have already completed the high school plan of study and saved at least three careers. Please go to www.gacollege411.org and have your child show you their Portfolio and the results from their Interest Profiler and/or Career Cluster Survey.~If your child has not completed these two surveys, we will complete at school or they can complete at home.

Your child should sign in using their designated user name and their password. (If your child has forgotten his/her username and/or password, they will have to receive this information from Ms. Matthews in the counseling office.) Once in the system, click on "Your Portfolio" in the upper right hand corner - the tab with purple writing. In the boxes on the top labeled "Career Planning Portfolio" and "High School Planning Portfolio" click the links beside the blue arrows. These links will take you to the career and high school planning information.

If your child wants to retake one of the career planning surveys, they should click the "Career Planning" tab with orange writing on the top left of the webpage. Then, click in the box labeled "Learn About Yourself." Then, click in the box for the "Interest Profiler" or "Career Cluster Survey." This will bring you to the survey questions. If your child is completing the Career Cluster Survey, please have him/her to save at least three career clusters.

All experience levels, beginner to advanced, are welcome.  Fencing gear is provided for beginners at the start of the season. We can inform you about summer fencing camps, too!  We compete in the Georgia High School Fencing League that includes 15 high schools in Cobb, DeKalb and Fulton County.

Two DHS fencers qualified for the 2012 and one for the 2013 high school championships.  Three DHS fencers, including a freshman, received their high school letter for fencing for 2012-2013.

Look for our club table on registration day. There will be an informational meeting in the fall and practice will begin after the start of school. Tournaments start in September, so the sooner you contact one of us, the better prepared you
