On the morning of November 8, 2013, Super Typhoon Haiyan made landfall in the central Philippines, causing massive, widespread damage and knocking out power and communications lines. Episcopal Relief & Development (ERD) is working with its local partner, the Episcopal Church in the Philippines, to assess needs and determine how best to respond.

  • Thanks to the Chartered Committee for Christian Formationthe Diocese is sponsoring a core training for teachers of Godly Play.  This basic training is designed for those who are interested in teaching or are already teaching Godly Play but are not certified.

     

    The training takes place January 10-12, 2014 at All Saints, Greensboro. The training begins at 5:30 on Friday, followed by two full days of training on Saturday and Sunday. A certificate from the Godly Play Foundation will be awarded upon completion of the core training. 

     

    Early registration is available now at a reduced rate of $75. After December 20, the standard registration is $125.
       
  • If your congregation is interested in studying the Bible, liturgy and other important Christian topics, why not explore the possibility of online learning? The Diocese is considering a diocesan membership in ChurchNext, a resource for online Christian learning. This membership allows 20 congregations to build their own online school for a year at a reduced rate.

14 - Webinar: The Basics: The Affordable Care Act and The Health Care Marketplace, 12:00-1:00p.m., presented by the NC Council of Churches. This webinar will discuss requirements of the ACA for individual health insurance, introduction of the basic details of the federal health care marketplace, consumer protections provided by the ACA, the levels of coverage and benefits available, tax credit and cost-sharing subsidies, the penalty for not having health insurance, and ways to access help with enrollment.

  

15 - "Fifty Years Later: The State of Racism in America," 2:00p.m., live streaming forum. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington, The Episcopal Church and the Diocese of Mississippi will host a 90-minute forum, with a keynote by the Most Rev. Jefferts Schori. Registration is not required to watch the broadcast. Questions can be submitted ahead of time 

 

17 - Alzheimer's Disease Educational Forum, 12:00p.m., Church of the Redeemer, Greensboro. Discussion on Alzheimer's Disease 

and the Family, presented by Dr. Rosalyn Lang from the Center for Outreach in Alzheimer's, Aging and Community Health (COAACH), at North Carolina A&T State University. Free and open to the public.

22 - "Approaching Death Within a Community of Faith," 8:30a.m.-4:00p.m., St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Chapel Hill. An interdenominational conference for Christians who wish to reflect on the death and resurrection of Jesus so that they may die well and faithfully. Also intended for caregivers, pastors, medical providers and others committed to supporting the dying Christian.

A joint effort by Duke Chapel, St. Thomas More Church and the Newman Center at Chapel Hill.

Don't forget: To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington, The Episcopal Church and the Diocese of Mississippi will host a 90-minute forum this Friday, Nov. 15, at 2:00p.m. Our own Bishop Curry will be part of the panel, and the Most Rev.
