Lake Champlain sea lamprey barriers

Sea lampreys are contributing to a significant decline in fish stocks and other aquatic ecosystem resources in Lake Champlain. Proposed lamprey barrier projects would improve the quality of the environment by limiting lamprey access. Read more

Burlington awarded $1.5 million in boating infrastructure
| The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service has announced that the City of Burlington has been awarded a $1.5 million grant to enhance boating opportunities at the Perkins Pier Marina. This grant was one of 16 competitive grants given out this year through the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service's Boating Infrastructure Grant program to enhance boating opportunities throughout the country. Spiny water flea poised to invade Lake Champlain
| The spiny water flea, long endemic to Sacandaga Reservoir, is now poised to invade Lake Champlain. This noxious invader, which clogs fishing lines and pierces juvenile fish intestines, is about to reach Lake Champlain through the Glens Falls Champlain Canal Feeder. Keep reading |
NY DEC announces tentative 2014 -2015 migratory game bird hunting season

The tentative schedule for many of New York's 2014 - 2015 migratory game bird seasons is now available, allowing sportsmen and sportswomen to plan outdoor activities well in advance. Tentative season dates for ducks, geese, woodcock, snipe, and rails can be found on the DEC website. Read mroe

State wildlife grant supports restoring native salmon
in Lake Champlain
|
Landlocked salmon were once abundant in Lake Champlain, but habitat degradation and over-fishing destroyed the native population by 1850. Removing migration barriers such as dams and cleaning up Vermont's rivers has helped the restoration effort. The VT Fish & Wildlife Dept. has also been stocking Lake Champlain and its tributaries with landlocked salmon. Read more...

The 2014 Father's Day Derby was a huge success
| The 33rd LCI Father's Day Derby presented by Yamaha is now anchored in the record books, and the numbers say it all. 1,892 fished weighed in, 1,672 of which were released alive. Two new tournament records. One angler waled away with $17,397.72 in cash. Another left with a new boat valued at more than $38,000 and a bunch of cash as well. Read on |
