New state regulations target aquatic invasive species
Boaters using DEC lands to launch boats or other watercraft are now required to clean and drain boats prior to launch in the state of New York. Learn more about what NY is doing to prevent invasive species from entering and damaging NY water bodies, here

The US Army Corps of Engineers notes that sea lampreys are contributing to a significant decline in fish stocks and other aquatic ecosystem resources in Lake Champlain. Learn more about how lamprey barriers can limit lamprey access in the lake.  
Lake Champlain watershed environmental assistance program
The goal of this program is to provide assistance with planning, designing, and implementing large scale projects that protect and enhance water quality, water supply, ecosystem integrity, and other related issues within the watershed. Learn more.

Aquatic plant control program, Lake Champlain
Authorized by the River and Harbor Act of 1958, the Aquatic Plant Control Program for Lake Champlain provides for the control and eradication of aquatic plants in navigable waters, tributary streams, connecting channels, and other allied waters in the interest of navigation, flood risk management, drainage, agriculture, fish and wildlife conservation, public health, and related purposes. Read more
New program helps Vermont homeowners finance failed wastewater or drinking water systems

Studying the impact of VHSV on a key St. Lawrence sportfishery
New York Sea Grant is funding research by Cornell University to better understand the impact of viral hemorrhagic septicemia virus (VHSV) on an economically and ecologically import sportfish, the muskellunge, in the St. Lawrence River. Read more

Thanks for another successful Father's Day Derby
The 33rd LCI Father's Day Derby presented by Yamaha is now anchored in the record books, and the numbers say it all. 1,892 fish weighed in, 1,672 of which were released alive. Two new tournament records.One angler walked away with $17,397.72 in cash. Another with a new boat valued at more than $38,000 in addition to a bunch of cash. Keep reading

FDA and EPA issue updated draft advice for fish consumption

The US Food and Drug Administration and the US Environmental Protection Agency recently issued updated draft advice on fish consumption. The two agencies have concluded pregnant and breastfeeding women, those who might be pregnant, and young children should eat more fish that is lower in levels of mercury. Find out why.
EPA agrees to greater protection of salmon from pesticides

 After a two year dispute, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and a coalition of conservation organizations and fishing groups reached an agreement to set reasonable no-spray bugger zones to protect salmon from five harmful insecticides. Read more.
