Ice shanty's must be removed before the ice weakens
|
Vermont state law requires that ice fishing shanties must be removed from the ice before the ice becomes unsafe or ice loses its ability to support the shanty out of the water, or before the last Sunday in March (the 30th this year), whichever comes first. Read press release here!

Special snow goose harvest opportunity

Since 2009 hunters have had the opportunity to pursue snow geese during the spring as a result of a special management action referred to as a "Conservation Order" allowed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and adopted by the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Board. Click here for more

Three of Vermont's largest fish of 2013 are new state records

Anglers have been entering impressive catches in Vermont's record fish program every year since records were first kept by the Fish & Wildlife Department in 1969, and 2013 was no exception. Three of the largest fish entered last year also qualified as new all-time state records. See them here!

LCI is fortunate to have the council from so many passionate and knowledgeable experts. As they say, it takes a village! We'd like to thank and welcome two new members to the LCI Advisory Council: Brian T. Fitzgerald, M.S. developed his appreciation of Vermont's natural resources while growing up in Pittsford, VT where his home range spanned two watersheds: the Castleton River and Otter Creek. From 1996 to 2013 he worked in streamflow protection and river restoration at the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources. Read more about Brian...Sally Flis, Ph.D. recently joined LCI's Advisory Council, providing LCI staff with her expertise in the agricultural field. Dr. Flis earned her B.S. and M.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her Ph.D. in Plant and Soil Science from the University of Vermont. Her extensive background in agriculture and farm nutrient management plans is a great asset to LCI as we continue to protect our waters and fisheries from pollution runoff. Learn more about Sally...

Lake trout and salmon anglers meet with Vt Fish & Wildlife

LCI facilitated a meeting between some of Lake Champlain's most avid lake trout and salmon anglers and the VT Fish & Wildlife Department to ensure efficient collaboration and the best possible future for the lake's cold water fisheries possible. Keep an ear out for progress with the lake's cold water fisheries in upcoming months and years!
