As summer heats up, water is the place to be. For Portlanders, and those traveling to Oregon's City of Roses, the Willamette River offers great paddling adventures as well as some signature events for pedaling your bike and partying your patootie off.
Highlighted Below: Several routes to paddle on the Willamette Water Trail, followed by your one and only opportunity each year to ride your bike over Portland's bridges in the Providence Bridge Pedal, the Waterfront Blues Festival, and The Big Float on the Willamette that culminates in Portland's first downtown beach party, including a music barge and three bands. Open to all ages, the Big Float 3 begins with a parade. Floaters gather at Tom McCall Bowl, then carry or wear their floatation devices and march south along Waterfront Park to the put-in point at the beach area beneath the Marquam Bridge. Floaters will paddle down river and land on the west bank at the Tom McCall Bowl. Here, Portland's first downtown beach party will be held - complete with music barge and 3 live bands, food carts, sponsor booths, and a kids' area.

Portland, OregonAugust 11, 2013On this one morning of the year, Portland's Willamette River bridges welcome thousands of cyclists and walkers - from the Sellwood to the St. Johns, including the top decks of the Fremont and Marquam bridges.
