Thank you to Brianna & Blair from Whangarei, New Zealand. These two bright & generous youngsters set up a stall at their local mall to raise funds for EHF by selling their grandmother's delicious baked goods and their old toys and collected $112.90! Their hard work will help us care for animals and save lives. Thank you Brianna & Blair for showing that everyone can be a part of making a difference for animals.

Last February, an emergency call came into the Esther Honey Foundation Veterinary Clinic on Rarotonga in the Cook Islands.  A dog had been run over by a car and was left lying in a pool of blood. The Esther Honey volunteer veterinary team rushed to the scene to find the severely injured animal with a gaping open wound on his front leg.

The dog was immediately taken to the EHF Clinic where it was determined that his leg would have to be amputated if his life were to be saved.

The Esther Honey Foundation (EHF) has been the sole provider of companion animal veterinary care, humane population management and education for this small island nation since 1995. All services are provided at no cost to the Cook Islands' residents and tourists.

Without the foundation, this dog and so many others in desperate need of care would have been shot or died a slow painful death.  But this handsome boy received the life-saving veterinary care he needed to survive and the safe harbour he required to heal. Our volunteers learned that their patient was a homeless dog often seen scavenging for food.  He endeared himself to the clinic volunteers -- who named him "Shredder" -- as a loyal loving dog, always grateful for a full belly and the occasional tummy rub.

With abundant love and rehabilitation that included daily hydrotherapy in the ocean across the road from the clinic, Shredder persevered and following his long recovery he was ready for adoption.  Fortunately for "Shredder" EHF is a not only a veterinary clinic but also serves as a shelter where the clinic team cares for animals until the day a proper home is found.

Shredder's special day came on June 2, 2013 when a lovely older couple came to the clinic for a visit. Their dog, who had recently passed away, also happened to be three-legged just like Shredder. When the couple went to the area where dogs are free to scamper and play they saw Shredder. It was love at first sight. They knew he was the right dog to join their family. Everyone at the Esther Honey Foundation was elated that sweet Shredder had found the ideal loving home after such a rough start.

Shredder and his new family are often spotted around the island, going on walks, and playing on the beach. This happy ending could only have happened because of contributions from caring people like you.

Please help support the veterinary services, daily feeding and care that dogs like Shedder require to heal and find love in forever homes. Please donate online today.

2014 will be our 19th year in the Cook Islands. If past years are predictive of future years, more than 3,000 Cook Islands animals will require veterinary care in the New Year and their conditions will provide challenges and opportunities for the Esther Honey Foundation and our volunteers. Your donation this year will be the key to our overcoming these challenges and providing successful outcomes like Shredder. Please donate today to make a difference for the animals and the communities of the Cook Islands.

Top reason to donate to the Esther Honey Foundation

#1 We're in for the long-haul.

EHF has demonstrated a long-term commitment to creating a permanent improvement in the health conditions and quality of life for animals and their communities through spay/neuter and education. We have treated more than 38,000 animals including spaying and neutering more than 14,000 since establishing the Esther Honey Foundation Clinic.

The Foundation has provided quality veterinary care at no charge 24 hours a day, seven days a week year after year since 1995. Owned and homeless animals receive comparable care and no healthy animal is euthanized. We are "all-in" working daily with community individuals, businesses and officials to reach this shared goal.

Your contributions of funds, supplies and time in 2013, made it possible for the Esther Honey Foundation to provide veterinary care and a safe harbour for cats, dogs, goats, pigs, horses, cows, chickens, sea birds who would not receive care without Esther Honey.

Thanks to you, we've made significant improvements in the number and health conditions of Cook Islands' animals. In 2013 the Esther Honey Foundation

  • Treated more than 3,000 animals
  • Spayed/Neutered more than 800 cats and dogs
  • Served over 15,000 meals to the animals in our care
  • Placed more than 250 homeless animals in caring homes
  • Provided Community Animal Health and Humane Education

We need your support to reach our goal and to be there for animals like Shredder. We cannot do what we do without you.
