IDOA's Nelson Resigns
News out of he State Capitol is that IDOA director, Phillip Nelson announced his resignation Thursday evening. Nelson was appointed to the post in January by Governor Bruce Rauner. Nelson will continue at the department for another 30-days. Also resigning and very vocal in his reason for resigning was Illinois State Fair manager Patrick Buchen. Buchen claims pressure from the Governor's office, which he termed "bull crap" led to the forced resignations. Farm Progress article.
Boehner Announces Resignation
Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH) announced today that he was stepping down from the House at the end of October. Boehner has been under fire from the far right wing of the Party for several months. His announced resignation is expected to ease concerns over a looming budget battle that threatens to shut down the government.
Tax bill making its way through House
The House Ways and Means Committee on Thursday passed legislation (H.R. 2510) that would make 50 percent bonus depreciation permanent. Because farming requires large investments in machinery, equipment and other depreciable capital, farmers and ranchers place great value on tax code provisions that allow them to write off capital expenditures in the year that purchases are made. FBNews article

TWELVE AMENDMENTS

On September 25, 1789, the First Federal Congress of the United States proposed to the state legislatures twelve amendments to the Constitution. The first two, concerning the number of constituents for each Representative and the compensation of Congressmen, were not ratified.

Articles three through twelve, known as the Bill of Rights, became the first ten amendments to the U.S. Constitution and contained guarantees of essential rights and liberties omitted in the crafting of the original document.

The original second amendment proposed by the First Federal Congress dealt with the compensation of members of Congress. Although rejected at the time, it was eventually ratified on
May 7, 1992, as the 27th amendment.
