Counties go on record on Grain Belt

The Scott County Commissioners and the Pike County Board went on record this month in opposition to aspects of the Grain Belt Express Clean Line transmission line project.

The county governments sent letters to the Illinois Commerce Commission stating opposition to GBECL's application for expedited review of their proposed transmission line project. Illinois Farm Bureau and several landowner groups called on the ICC to dismiss the company's application under Section 8-406.1 citing the fact that GBECL is not a utility.

The counties also stated their opposition to GBECL being granted eminent domain authority joining several other counties in Illinois impacted by the proposed project.

Here we go again...
With the recent excessive rainfall in the Illinois River valley, operations to protect property is again underway.

Levee commissioners in Scott and Pike counties are working with state and local emergency management officials, legislators and the Corps of Engineers to prepare for expected high water.

Several roads in the Two Rivers area are currently closed due to the high water.

Barring significant rainfall over the weekend, the Illinois River is expected to crest early next week and to stay above Major flood stage for all of next week.
TPA vote good for agriculture

The Senate passed the Trade Promotion Authority bill, H.R. 2146, by a vote of 60-38 on Wednesday. The Bipartisan Congressional Trade Priorities and Accountability Act of 2015 will now be sent to the president for his signature.

According to AFBF President Bob Stallman, "The Senate's bipartisan passage of Trade Promotion Authority today sends a strong signal to foreign governments that we mean business at the bargaining table and are ready to complete new agreements that will break down trade barriers and open new markets from Asia to Europe."
