Radica Bhawani-Clatworthy had never been a patient in hospital before. So when the Scarborough senior learned she had to have emergency surgery to remove her gallbladder this past May, she was understandably scared and nervous. But some simple acts of reassurance and compassion from surgeon Dr. Saul Mandelbaum made all the difference in getting her through a stressful experience.

Dr. Janet Roscoe, Nephrologist and Director of the Home Hemodialysis Unit at The Scarborough Hospital (TSH), has been awarded a Mastership from the American College of Physicians (ACP).   

"Throughout her career, Dr. Roscoe has made it her mission to improve the care and service delivery of dialysis for patients, both domestically and abroad," said Dr. Paul Tam, Medical Director of The Scarborough Hospital's Regional Nephrology Program. "This is an extremely well-deserved honour that distinguishes her within the specialty of internal medicine."

The Scarborough Hospital's Community Advisory Council (CAC) fully supports a merger of Rouge Valley Health System (RVHS) and The Scarborough Hospital (TSH). 

The announcement was made at TSH's Board of Directors meeting on December 3. "There is a fantastic momentum involving the hospitals, the doctors and the community and we are all focused on the same value proposition for this merger. Access to quality health care in Scarborough is what is most important for our community," states the CAC report to the TSH Board, as presented by Denis Lanoue, CAC Chair. "The CAC will do everything we can to ensure that we have vibrant and viable health care facilities servicing our Scarborough community."
