Like many young men, 31-year-old Alberto Aristondo thought he was "invincible" and would never get sick.

That all changed on April 14, 2013 when Alberto visited The Scarborough Hospital's Birchmount campus Emergency Department for "unbearable" pain.  

"I was a total mess and the pain hit me like a ton of bricks," he said. "I had heard horror stories about people getting sick like this, but you never think it's going to happen to you."

Linen carts across the hospital may seem a bit fuller in the coming days, as The Scarborough Hospital introduces more hospital gown options for patients.  

Starting last week, patients at both campuses have access to two options in addition to the standard hospital gown: a robe and pajama-style pants. Although these are not new products, they're meant to offer our patients more comfort and choice.   

The Scarborough Hospital Foundation is hosting their annual Scarborough World Cup of Golf on August 27, and invites all staff, physicians and volunteers to participate.  

It's a great opportunity to enjoy a day of golf at the award-winning Angus Glen Golf and Country Club while supporting the Cancer Care program at The Scarborough Hospital. TSH is a leader in providing cancer care to Scarborough residents, and while the program currently experiences a high volume of patients, the hospital provides excellent care while maintaining low wait times.  

Over the next three years, TSH will implement an integrated Cancer Care program - from screening to treatment - across the organization. 

"We want our patients living longer and better lives without being defined by their illness," says Sari Greenwood, Patient Care Manager of the hospital's Cancer Care program.

• Shotgun start: 1:30 p.m.  
• Dinner and Awards: 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
