Hundreds of Toronto-area residents filled the fields of L'Amoreaux Park in Scarborough on June 22 and 23 as the Scarborough World Cup of Cricket made its debut with a grand slam - or as they say in cricket, a five-wicket haul. Ten local teams competed in the inaugural cricket tournament, and while the Scarborough Muslim Association-sponsored team took home first prize, the ultimate winner was The Scarborough Hospital, which raised $50,000 for its Cancer Care Program through the community-wide family event. "The event exceeded our expectations, and is a testament to the growing popularity of cricket in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA)," said Michael Mazza, President of The Scarborough Hospital Foundation (TSHF), which organized the event. "It also demonstrates that great things can be accomplished when the community comes together." MORE> |
