TSH opens new dialysis unit at Bridgepoint
For more than 20 years, The Scarborough Hospital has partnered with Bridgepoint Active Healthcare to deliver dialysis services to complex continuing care patients. This partnership has entered an exciting, new phase with the opening of an updated satellite dialysis unit in Bridgepoint's new, state-of-the art hospital that just opened this past April. "TSH is home to one of the largest Regional Nephrology Programs in North America, with over 6,000 patients receiving care," said Robert Biron, President and CEO of The Scarborough Hospital. "Combined with Bridgepoint's leading approach in the care and treatment of adults living with complex health conditions, we are able to deliver a superior integrated care experience for these patients." The modern unit offers many improvements that will enhance dialysis services, including: - A 2,200 square foot space, with six dialysis suites running three shifts per day, providing hemodialysis for 18 patients.
- Dialysis stations which are 8' by 9', exceeding current infection control standards.
- Ceiling lifts, as well as one station configured to accommodate bariatric patients.
- Infrastructure for the future addition of nocturnal dialysis, which would allow patients to fully participate in Bridgepoint's rehabilitation and wellness services during the day.
The event also included a special tribute to TSH Nephrologist Dr. Janet Roscoe who, over the years, has advocated, supported and provided for the care needs of Complex Continuuing Care patients on dialysis. Dr. Roscoe was presented with a plaque honoring her work. |
