The members of the Expert Panel for The Scarborough Hospital's (TSH) Maternal Newborn and Women's Health and Surgical Models Review will now receive delegations on Friday, May 31 from 7:45 am - 9:00 pm, an additional four hours than previously planned, to ensure that as many people as possible can participate.

The Expert Panel, which is comprised of physician and nursing leaders from peer hospitals and a local community leader, has been put in place in response to the Central East Local Health Integration Network's (Central East LHIN) Board of Directors motion of March 27, 2013, which called upon TSH to convene a panel to review the proposed consolidation of Maternal Newborn services at the Birchmount campus and the consolidation of same day/short stay surgery at Birchmount with more complex surgeries with overnight stays at the General campus.

Her father, Warish Zakarian, was a patient here for seven and a half weeks and his family was so impressed with the care provided by the nurses, physicians and other staff that they sent a letter featuring 36 names to the CEO.

"I thought I would take this opportunity to extend our gratitude and sincere thanks to a large number of caregivers at your Birchmount campus who have been providing care to my father," Sosi wrote.

The Scarborough World Cup of Cricket, an inaugural event, is being held in support of The Scarborough Hospital's Cancer Care program.

According to Sari Greenwood, Patient Care Manager of The Scarborough Hospital Cancer Care program, the hospital receives more than 24,000 visits annually to its cancer centre, and the numbers are growing.

"Managed by a multidisciplinary team of oncologists and specially-trained nurses, the hospital's Cancer Care program is very strong, and with increased integration of services, our program will become even stronger."
