Thank you to everyone who participated in Phase 2 of our Strategic Plan Refresh. The refresh was undertaken by The Scarborough Hospital in an effort to provide more clarity and guidance regarding which services should expand, remain fixed or decrease in order to meet the acute care hospital needs of our community.
During Phase 1, we met with more than 800 people face-to-face in 39 separate meetings, hosted town halls and provided an online survey to gather as much feedback as we could from both internal and external stakeholders about the changes coming to healthcare. What we learned is that you wanted even more consultation before any final decisions were made. Click here to learn more about Phase 1.
During Phase 2 we gathered feedback from staff, physicians, volunteers and community members through a number of different activities including:
- Community information sessions
- Mall engagement sessions
- Focus groups
- Internal and external stakeholder survey
- Executive Interviews
And kept our community informed throughout the process via:
- Website
- Community eNewsletter
- Direct mail/email notices
- Newspaper ads
- Video synched to PowerPoint
Feedback gathered from Phase 2 Community Engagement and Consultation will be combined into a report and presented to the Board of Directors for its meeting on March 5.

John Hardie can't say enough about the wonderful care he received at The Scarborough Hospital's General campus.
The Scarborough resident was on vacation in cottage country last summer when he realized something was wrong. He ended up at the Minden Hospital, but was quickly transferred to TSH with necrotizing fasciitis (flesh eating disease).

We're always striving to provide the best care TSH has implemented numerous strategies over the past five years to enhance the quality of care in all our programs. Already we are recognized as a leader in healthcare, but there is always room for improvement. TSH already completes the highest number of hip and knee surgeries in the Central East Local Health Integration Network, yet manages to keep wait times below both the provinical and Central East LHIN targets. "One of our big initiatives was the idea of early ambulation, basically, getting the patients up and moving as soon as possible. To help with this, we made it a goal to have outpatient physiotherapy see the patient 72 hours after discharge," said Nurallah Rahim, Patient Care Director of Surgery. Another step was to introduce physiotherapy on the weekend as this gets patients moving sooner and home quicker, with the appropriate supports. |
