Whole Foods Market - America's Healthiest Grocery Store®
KNOW YOUR LEAFY GREENS
They power our salads and smoothies; our farmers power how they grow. Whether you're trying to keep pesticides off your plate or you're passionate about pollinator health, look for our Responsibly Grown rating system for fresh produce and flowers to inform you about how those greens grew.
Greens vary widely in flavor from sweet to bitter to earthy, and many are pungent, peppery and sharp. Regardless of variety, always look for crisp leaves with vibrant color.
Collards, kale, turnip greens and mustard greens are at their best from October through early spring. Swiss chard and beet greens are best from spring through fall. Dandelion greens are available and best in spring and summer. Quality and seasonality may vary as greens are a popular crop for local and regional growers.
Storing Tip: Most greens can be stored in the refrigerator for several days, provided they are protected from airflow. Most store best in a plastic bag in the crisping drawer of your refrigerator.
