Explore Minnesota Challenge Takes Second Trip Around the State Explore Minnesota Challenge
Today -December, 2013

Anderson Race Management and Explore Minnesota Tourism have teamed up to bring you a new statewide running series called the "Explore Minnesota Challenge." This series of more than 25 races in four designated areas around the state of Minnesota encourages participation in various running, walking, biking and triathlon events.

 

Participants will be awarded a special Explore Minnesota Challenge lapel pin for participation in each of the regions they have finished a race. A special Explore Minnesota Challenge medal will be awarded to those who complete a total of 5 events including one in each of the four designated areas. Participants who register for the series will also receive membership in the Minnesota Distance Running Association and a starter kit.   More information and registration is online here.

Wright County Law Enforcement Torch Run Half Marathon & 5K for Special Olympics Minnesota
May 4, Buffalo

Support the 7,200 athletes of Special Olympics Minnesota through this challenging half marathon course or family-friendly 5K walk/run along the beautiful, rolling hills of the Wright County countryside!  The 3rd annual Wright County Law Enforcement Torch Run Half Marathon & 5K for Special Olympics Minnesota will be held Saturday, May 4 at Sturges Park in Buffalo, Minnesota.  Registration is available online here.  Half marathon fees are $75 until May 4 and the 5K is $25.

Proceeds benefit Open Baskets, a not-for-profit group that fills the hearts, minds, and souls of our neighbors who live with a mental illness by creating and sending winter holiday gift baskets. For many, the baskets are the only gift these neighbors receive each year.

It is estimated that annually more than 73,000 new cases of bladder cancer will be diagnosed and nearly 15,000 people will die from the disease.
Bladder cancer is the 6th most commonly diagnosed cancer in the U.S. - 4th among men (after prostate, lung and colon) and 11th among women.

Join us in May for the 5th Annual Eau Claire Marathon! We had a record number of participants in 2012! The race proceeds will continue to support the new Eau Claire YMCA building project. Our full marathon, half marathon, marathon relay, and fun run showcase the beautiful parks, rivers, lakes, and bike trails throughout Eau Claire and the surrounding Chippewa Valley.  We had a record number of participants in 2012, along with a successful inaugural marathon relay! The race proceeds will continue to support the new Eau Claire YMCA building project. Come for the race and stay for the festivities...there is something for every shoe size!  Join us on May 5 at Como Park to celebrate the potential of children with hearing loss.  This family-friendly event raises community awareness and support for Northern Voices - and all proceeds are matched, dollar for dollar, to provide scholarships for our young students. 

Walk for Talk Save the Date Northern Voices is a nonprofit school for deaf and hard of hearing children in Roseville.  We teach kids with cochlear implants and hearing aids how to listen and talk!  Come out and support our hard working kids and families - register for the 5K race (chip-timed) at www.active.com or the Fun Run/Walk at www.northernvoices.org.  Post race activities include animal balloons, face painting, music, fire trucks, and more!

The Rave Run was founded in 2012 by a runner, an artist and an insomniac.  The idea was to bring the adrenaline pumping music and special effects from electronic festivals onto a 5K course.  The dazzling light effects are designed by EDC artists and industry experts.  It's like Willy Wonka's chocolate factory, except with lights.  It's candy for your eyes and ears.  Its' a glow run...gone wild!  Get ready for the night of your life.  Experience a magical world of light and sound unlike anything else out there.  Packet PIckup is Thursday, May 9th from 10:30 - 7:30 p.m. at Sports Authority, Richfield, 1150 W. 78th Street at the Shops at Lyndale, Richfield, MN  55442.  Find more information here.

The sixth annual Maple Grove Half Marathon and 5K will be held on May 11, 2013.  All races begin and end with a lap of the track at Maple Grove High School.  In addition to the half marathon and 5K events, we also offer a two-person half marathon relay. 
All events reach capacity each year, and this year will be no exception.  The half marathon and relay are full and the 5K has limited space available.  Click here to register for the 5K.  All proceeds go to the Maple Grove Lions for their charitable efforts in the Maple Grove and surrounding areas.

Be the Match Be the Match 2013
May 18, Minneapolis

 

The Be The Match Walk+Run is a fun and moving event that allows our passionate community to come together to help provide cures for blood cancers. The event is filled with music, food, kids activities, and local entertainment.

Be the Match photo 2012Be The Match Foundation uses the funds raised to help patients receive the marrow transplant they need. Funds raised through the Be The Match Walk+Run will help patients by growing the Be The Match Registry, helping patients with uninsured costs, and supporting transplant research. The event is on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Lake Harriet. The event village opens at 7:30 a.m. and the Tot Trot for children 5 years old and younger begins at 8:45 a.m. The 5K begins at 9:00 a.m. with the 1K starting shortly after at 9:05 a.m.

Autism 5K Autism 5K
May 18, Minneapolis

Whether you're a serious runner, a casual jogger or a walker, you'll enjoy the Autism 5K.  Last year we had over 1,800 participants, evenly split between walkers and runners.  Many groups participate in support of a particular family member, a cause, organization or workplace.  Others participate to compete in a certified 5K or just to enjoy a nice run or walk around Lake Calhoun.    

Autism 5K 2013 The race will be held at Lake Calhoun on Saturday, May 18, starting at 9:00 a.m. sharp.  Please arrive early, if possible, to avoid lines.   

1 in 88 American children have some form of Autism and 1 in 54 boys.  This is up 72% from 2002!  (CDC numbers from March 2012).  Now more than ever we need to support our local families, build awareness and support autism research.    

Net proceeds benefit Children with Autism Deserve Education (CADE), a local volunteer nonprofit that supports children and families affected by autism as well as research.  Join us a the Autism 5K to help our cause and support your community.  Registration is online here.

This is our chance to thank those who have and are serving American and who are providing freedom around the world.  

Come early to participate in the opening ceremonies, followed by the 5k run/walk and 1k kids fun run. Make sure to join us at the finish line as well to enjoy the awards ceremony followed by music and lunch. Proceeds to benefit disabled American Veterans.

Run to Win Minnesota is part of the Run to Win America events, and is not just a 5k race, it is an experience and event that captures what America was founded on and what has made America the greatest nation in the world.  

Race to Win The 2013 Run to Win America 5k Event reflects the characteristics that make America great. Each state will host a 5k run to compete and determine which state is the fastest state in the nation. Each state will also compete for other prestigious titles as well. Run to Win America will then give a substantial portion of the proceeds generated from the runs to this year's focus charity organization, Project Hope Worldwide.  Registration and information is online here.

Randy's Run 5K and Special Ops Challenge Randy's Run 2011

Randy's Run celebrates service, freedom and future by donating every cent raised on this family fun, timed 5K on Memorial Day to the Randy's Run scholarship at Eden Prairie High School. Randys Run In it's 4th year, Randy's Run is known for the great Nike shirt, awesome awards and prizes but most of all for bringing families out to thank the service of our uniformed citizens.  The loop 5K is held at Purgatory Creek Park at 8:00 a.m. on Memorial Day, ahead of the annual Memorial Day service honoring veterans and military personnel.  There is a unique Special Ops Challenge for those in uniform.  For more information and to register visit randysrun.org.

Open-Face Cucumber and Tahini Sandwiches.

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup tahini
  • 1 (4 ounce) cup 365 Everyday Value Mandarin Oranges, drained and finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons mellow white miso
  • 4 slices Health Starts Here bread, such as Orchard Harvest, toasted
  • 1 cucumber, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup sunflower or mung bean sprouts

Method:

In a small bowl, whisk together tahini, oranges, vinegar, miso and 1 to 2 tablespoons water; spread evenly on bread. Top with cucumbers and sprouts and serve.
