Explore Minnesota Challenge Takes Second Trip Around the State Explore Minnesota Challenge
January -December, 2013

Anderson Race Management and Explore Minnesota Tourism have teamed up to bring you a new statewide running series called the "Explore Minnesota Challenge." This series of more than 25 races in four designated areas around the state of Minnesota encourages participation in various running, walking, biking and triathlon events.

 

Participants will be awarded a special Explore Minnesota Challenge lapel pin for participation in each of the regions they have finished a race. A special Explore Minnesota Challenge medal will be awarded to those who complete a total of 5 events including one in each of the four designated areas. Participants who register for the series will also receive membership in the Minnesota Distance Running Association and a starter kit.   More information and registration is online here.

Learn the latest on social media, course medical necessities, or better yet, what to do if you need to cancel your event.  The annual Minnesota Distance Running Association's Race Director's Conference gets underway, Saturday, January 19 in Edina.  

You'll hear from industry leaders and share with others just starting out or looking for ways to improve their existing events.  There are great networking opportunities and goodies too!  Stay after for the annual MDRA Pizza party and awards ceremony and make a wintery day, a running opportunity!

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training (TNT) is the world's largest charity endurance sports training program. Coaches prepare people of all abilities for full & half marathons, triathlons, and 100 mile bike rides. In 25 years we've raised over $1.32 billion in the pursuit of curing blood cancer. 

 

Come to our Preview Party at Park Plaza Bloomington, Thursday, Jan. 24 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Learn more, get registered, and meet your TNT staff, coaches, mentors, honorees and teammates. Enjoy appetizers, beverages, door prizes, grand prizes, and more! Meet special guest speaker, Olympian, Carrie Tollefson.

Celebrate Winter Running with the 28th Annual Securian Winter Run Securian Winter Run
January 26, St. Paul

It's cold outside and that can mean only one thing -it's race time!  Gather up your thermals and join us for a half marathon, 10K or 5K at the Securian Winter Run, January 28. Registration is open now.   

 

This year, you can take part in the World's Coolest Sockball Throwing Contest to help the Listening House.  Or friends and family can join the Saints in the ZerOK along the sidelines.  It's a day to celebrate winter and running and embracing Minnesota and outdoor running!   

 

Packet pick-up is Friday at both Run n Fun locations in Burnsville and St. Paul.  And showers are available free to participants at the YMCA Skyway in St. Paul.  More information is online here.

Twin Cities Tour de Cure!

Entry Fee Increase Approaching for 2013 Grandma's Marathon  Be sure to register for the 2013 Grandma's Marathon before Feb. 1!  The current entry fee is $90 thru Jan. 31, after which it will increase to $95 until April 1.

Make your winter training season a success by keeping these injury prevention tips in mind as you prepare for this year's races.

  • Plan goals
  • Talk about running with a coach, athletic trainer, etc
  • Consistently review your goals
  • Determine your reason for running (fitness, recreation, and competition)
  • Develop a running plan and strategy that is compatible with your goal and level of fitness
  • Set safe, achievable goals and advance slowly and cautiously
