Win $250 in DOM Bucks and an Independent Voices Award

Hopefully you remembered to vote in Tuesday's election. We hope you also don't forget to vote for your favorite shows on Denver Open Media!

You may not know, but DOM is a truly revolutionary approach to TV. The channels are programmed by YOU. Thousands of shows have been produced by community members, and when you vote on those shows on our website, your votes automatically drive the schedule for channel 57.

On December 4th, we will award two producers $250 in DOM Bucks for the Top-Rated Show and Most Prolific Producer.

So if you are a viewer, make it known which DOM shows you love! If you are a DOM producer, take this opportunity to submit more content and spread the word about your shows. And ask your friends, family and fans to VOTE!

Go now to denveropenmedia.org to watch and vote by clicking on the stars! Click here to see the current top-rated shows
DOM Equipment News

There will be a blizzard of new equipment at Denver Open Media in the next couple of months, but new gadget flurries have already started! We recently replaced most of the old Sony wired lavaliers with CAI lavaliers that feature a tiny (.2"!) capsule with an omnidirectional polar pattern. New Sennheiser MKE 600 shotgun microphones have also arrived.

We are looking to replace the dinosaur Lowel light kits, and for now we have a couple of new Ikan LED light kits that are a strong contender for this upgrade. Once we replace all of the Lowel light kits, these Ikan kits will be free for members! These incredible kits feature four low-energy/heat LED lights, batteries for wireless setup, and dimmer and color temperature dials with digital readouts!

In addition, we also have the brand new Sony A7Sii mirrorless camera and two new Sony lenses - a 55mm and a 24-240mm lens.

After unveiling them at our Adobe Hands-On Learning classes at the AVXpo, we are replacing our Learning Lab computers with 27" 5K iMacs. These new computers have 14.7 million pixels for precision editing. So reserve some editing time and edit your fantastic DOM content in style!

To learn more information on these items and more, visit denveropenmedia.org/equipment.
Open Music Sessions at Denver Open Media, November 6
On the first Friday of each month, DOM hosts a community event with local performance groups, musical acts and nonprofit partners. These events are broadcast live on Comcast Channel 57 in Denver as well as streamed on DOM's website.  Events are cablecast and streamed live in Denver Open Media's Studio A.

Join DOM for this month's Open Music Sessions on Friday, November 6, featuring a live musical performance by Wynn Walent and The Folks.

Save the Date! OMS Celebrating 12th Anniversary of OMF
Open Media Foundation is hosting our 12th Anniversary Party as part of the December 4th Open Music Sessions, starting at 6 pm.

This is a free, celebratory event for all ages! With food donated by Illegal Pete's, Noodles & Company, and Cosmo's Pizza, come early to grab a plate and watch the live Open Music Sessions featuring the band Chimney Choir, starting at 8 pm. During the show, we will announce our Independent Voices Awards, including DOM's Top-Rated Show and Most Prolific Producer.

It's OMF's biggest event of the year, and we want you to be a part of it! Donations will be accepted at our food and beverage stations.
December VIP Fundraising Dinner
We invite you to OMF's Annual Fundraising VIP Dinner, December 4th, 6 pm, at Open Media Foundation.

A very unique four-course meal will be provided by the talented "molecular gastronomy" chefs of The Inventing Room, with additional courses from City O' City and more! This promises to be a truly unique dining experience featuring some of Denver's best culinary talent.

Tickets for this event are $200 per person, with proceeds benefitting our mission of putting the power of media in the hands of you - the people!

Please RSVP via email to nicole@openmediafoundation.org.
Let the Bidding Begin!!!
Let the bidding begin!!! Open Media Foundation will be holding our annual silent auction November 25th to December 4th at 9:30pm. Unlike standard silent auctions, OMF's takes place on TV and online, and in-person for the last evening (December 4th) of the 10-day auction.

Looking for gift ideas for this holiday season? Come to our silent auction! Want to support this fundraiser for OMF? November 16th is your last chance to donate an auction item and get great exposure for your business or organization.

To donate, please contact fundraising@openmediafoundation.org.
Web Client - The Bell Policy Center

Making opportunity happen. The Bell Policy Center is committed to supporting and spearheading the public policies that help make Colorado a better place for everyone. As a long-standing client of OMF, our staff was thrilled to have the opportunity to revamp another existing client site.

Whether it is publishing a research report with tremendous implications or testifying at the Legislature, Bell Policy Center stays committed to their key issue areas. And the home page was designed to tell the story of who The Bell is, why they exist while making their work, news and updates easily accessible by all interested parties.

As a client with a strong (and still growing) social media presence, it was also important to feature the Twitter activity of The Bell. A continually updating Twitter feed was added to the home page so that all users can receive real-time updates.

Combined with a passionate and experienced staff, the Open Media Foundation leverages open-source tools and provides a 50% matching grant to ensure that the expense and complexity of web technology is not a barrier to any organization's mission.
Town of Basalt Embraces OMP

OMF is proud to announce our latest deployment of the Open Media Project for Government. The Town of Basalt, on the Western Slope, is now live streaming its council meetings with YouTube Live, and Town Clerk Pam Schilling is indexing the archive so constituents can search for particular agenda items of interest.

"The folks in Basalt are great to work with and they're very committed to an open, transparent public process," says OMP account executive Gavin Dahl. "We're also excited to be partnering with our friends at Grassroots TV in Aspen, who provide great coverage of public meetings throughout the Roaring Fork Valley."

Like the City of Louisville and the Colorado Judicial Branch, Basalt has chosen to embed the OMP as an iframe. But instead of directing traffic to their own website, the videos are viewable on a special Basalt section of the Grassroots TV website. Check it out!
Video Client - Eden Alternative

The Eden Alternative is a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to creating quality of life for elders. OMF partnered with Eden Alternative to film videos at two different elderly care centers in Denver - Brookshire House and Colorado Lutheran Home. The videos highlight the "optimizing medication systems" initiative, demonstrating how, in many cases, both facilities have successfully replaced medications with alternative approaches.

Proposed "Green Block" for DOM

Geoffrey Gordon (aka Jeff E Gee), producer of MMJ-TV and The Grow Show, would like to talk to any DOM producers interested in helping to create a 'Green Block' of content to air on channel 56 on Thursdays 6 pm to midnight. There are currently several producers with 'green' shows (Pot Skool, Cooking with Munchies, BluntTV, etc.), and there will likely be others who would like to help fill this proposed five to six-hour hour block of content.

"Living in Denver, Colorado gives us a unique opportunity to showcase what is happening at the leading edge of the medical, recreational and safety of the cannabis movement," says Jeff E Gee. "This is our opportunity to come together as a supportive cannabis community and have the very first cannabis theme block of content programming from a public access channel originating (no less) from the epicenter of the cannabis industry."

Those interested in meeting to discuss this proposed "Green Block" should email Jeff at Jeff.Eee.Gee@gmail.com.
Meet OMF Finance/HR Manager Joe Schmidt
Join us in welcoming Joe Schmidt to Open Media Foundation, who will be serving as our Finance/HR Manager.

Joe has been a business professional in the state of Colorado for many years and has accentuated his industry experience with a bachelor's degree from Colorado State University and an MBA from Regis University. By developing his talents in the areas of banking, finance, project management, and accounting, Joe's most recent venture has been to launch his own brand of integrated financial services and human resource management. Entitled BankWing, the mission is to promote efficiency, value, accessibility, and commitment to small-business back-office management.  It is through this business model that Joe is thrilled to be an integral team member to the OMF mission, growth, and strategy.
