New Classes in October and November
Check out some of our new class offerings in video production and web development!

October will feature our first ever Advanced Field Production offering. The class will span four Thursdays and will give students a project-based learning opportunity that will cover pre-production, post-production and editing. Students will complete a video to air on Denver Open Media, perfect for their sample reels!

In November, watch out for our first ever Wix Workshop. This workshop will show how easy it is is to create websites with this powerful and popular website building tool.

Click here for information on all of our classes here at OMF.
Open Music Sessions at Denver Open Media, October 2
On the first Friday of each month, DOM hosts a community event with local performance groups, musical acts and nonprofit partners. These events are broadcast live on Comcast Channel 57 in Denver as well as streamed on DOM's website.  Events are cablecast and streamed live in Denver Open Media's Studio A.

Join DOM for this month's Open Music Sessions on Friday, October 2, featuring a live musical performance by PrettyMouth.

PrettyMouth

PrettyMouth is one band, in a grand tradition of American rock bands - where (what you might call) tragedy is just as much about victory, and lament strides hand-in-hand with elation.

The show will also include a performance by comic Timmi.

The event begins at 7 pm, with the live show and concert beginning at 8 pm. Join us for this FREE event, complete with food and drinks!

Call for Silent Auction Items
Open Media Foundation is getting ready for their annual Independent Voices Awards during December 4th's Open Music Sessions at Denver Open Media.

We will recognize two organizations and two individuals who use new media to encourage positive social change. If you are a DOM producer, take the next two months to promote your shows and submit new content to increase your chances of winning an Independent Voices Award for 2015!

We will also be holding our annual Independent Voices Silent Auction during November and to December 4th. Keep an eye out in next month's newsletter for awesome deals and place your bids!

We are currently accepting silent auction items. If you would like to donate any items, please contact Nicole Marquez or Kelsey Mischke at fundraising@openmediafoundation.org.
She Said, He Said
The Open Media Foundation (OMF) won funding from the Knight Foundation to create She Said, He Said (SSHS), a government transparency project.

The work has two phases: research and application. The research phase is currently underway. OMF is bringing key stakeholders from the civic sector together to discuss gaps in service of current state legislative coverage. OMF is also conducting an ongoing survey on the same topic. You can take the survey here.

The second phase of the project involves building an application that helps to make legislators accessible and accountable to their constituents and is slated for the next couple of months.

This project extends OMF's work with the Colorado Channel. In partnership with the Colorado State Legislature, OMF creates and archives video recordings of all House of Representatives and Senate sessions.

Social Enterpise Alliance
Open Media Foundation co-hosted an event with the Colorado Chapter of the Social Enterprise Alliance during its annual September Summit.

The Social Enterprise Alliance champions for the development of the social enterprise sector in the United States.Their annual Summit brought together organizations dedicated to creating lasting, positive social change in order to strengthen the community with tools, resources, and networking.

During the summit, Open Media Foundation proudly presented its vision for equaling the playing field for nonprofits and social enterprises in the media conversation.

OMF also wishes to thank The Commons on Champa for donating space for the event.
Rocky Moutain AV Expo
Open Media Foundation will be teaching a series of classes on Adobe Premiere Pro during this year's Rocky Mountain Audio Video Expo, which is being held October 28 and 29 at the Crown Plaza DIA. Click here for more information and to register.
Meet OMF Junior Web Developer Jiang Zhan
Join us in welcoming Jiang Zhan, the latest addition to the OMF Web Services team. Jiang joins OMF as a Junior Web Developer.

From China, Jiang has a Bachelor's degree in Economics and a Master's degree in Computer Information Systems.

"I became impressed with OMF's professionalism and high-quality web product when I was applying for the web internship," Jiang says. "So I believe OMF would be a perfect place to learn and work. I have been here for about four months, and I have met amazing people and almost finished my first project, a new website for The Bell Policy Center."

Jiang enjoys sports including snowboarding, hiking, and surfing. He also enjoys playing challenging video games, and looks forward to trying mountain biking.
