Save the Date - Access La Alma
Access La Alma/Acceso La Alma celebrates the La Alma/Lincoln Park Neighborhood, connecting nonprofit services with the community's residents, and building local partnerships throughout our neighborhood.

The Open Media Foundation is hosting this FREE annual neighborhood party on August 7th from 6 to 9pm. The event will be held inside and outside the Denver Open Media studios on the 700 block between Santa Fe and Kalamath. DOM will broadcast LIVE via cable and internet streams and feature an exciting Denver band inside the studio.

In addition to its regular First Friday live TV entertainment show from the Denver Open Media Studios, DOM will play host to dozens of nonprofits, activities, music, entertainment, food and drinks for the whole family spread across the entire 7th Avenue block. Come by and enjoy the festivities!

FREE Summer Youth Programs at OMF
Thanks to a generous grant from the Anschutz Family Foundation, Open Media Foundation is once again offering free and discounted youth media education programs.

Educational offerings include workshops where youth receive hands-on instruction and experience with high-quality video equipment, and in the process create their own TV shows.

Past workshop participants include the Boys & Girls Club, Girls Inc. and Denver Indian Family Resource Center.

Letter from the Executive Director
This is the final week to support Open Media Foundation and DenHac (The Denver Hackerspace) by picking up some awesome premiums in the DenHac Kickstarter. From laser-etching your laptop to renting a 4K camera, you can support a great cause while picking up new tools.

The goal of this fundraising project is to raise money for the hackerspace here at 700 Kalamath Street to build some much needed improvements, such as complete power throughout the space and a complete key-card-based security system for better access control. Support this Kickstarter campaign and help this space to grow into a world-renown hackerspace!
Open Music Sessions at Denver Open Media, July 3
On the first Friday of each month, DOM hosts a community event with local performance groups, musical acts and nonprofit partners. These events are broadcast live on Comcast Channel 57 in Denver as well as streamed on DOM's website.  Events are cablecast and streamed live in Denver Open Media's Studio A.

Join DOM for this month's Open Music Sessions on Friday, July 3, featuring a live musical performance by Rossonian.

Rossonian

Rossonian is a band of white boys named after the legendary Five Points jazz club. The band delivers the same blissful reminder of pleasure and darkness to come that Jack Kerouac wrote about in On the Road. Rossonian's music is the thrill of anticipation as you prepare yourself for the ecstasy of heading out into the night.

Intern Profile - Allie Scheu, Public Relations
My name is Allie Scheu, a fourth year undergraduate at the University of Denver, majoring in Strategic Communications.

My primary focus as a Public Relations intern has been managing the social media accounts of OMF and DOM, which are platforms that are best executed with an interactive and casual presence. I think it is important for our followers, clients, and potential future clients to not only see what work we have accomplished, but also the fun things the staff is involved in. I was warmly welcomed my first day at OMF and have felt so comfortable here every since, and I want our followers to be able to see that atmosphere through our own media presence.

I am excited to spend my summer with OMF and don't forget to interact with me on our social media accounts! :)

Staff Profile - Alice Kassinger, AmeriCorps VISTA
I'm overjoyed to be the new AmeriCorps VISTA here at Open Media Foundation. I am a native of the Washington, DC area and a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis. While in St. Louis, I studied Psychology and found my passion for working with victims of mass incarceration and of domestic violence here in the U.S. I have spent the past year exploring Denver and found it to be a community of warm-hearted and curious people.

I feel privileged to have the chance to help OMF in its mission to offer services, training, and tools for those whose voices have been silenced by the few at the top of the corporate media ladder. I will be helping create curriculum for our excellent educational classes and ensuring that the people who need access to OMF the most are able to take advantage of our opportunities. Service has been a part of my life for the past decade, from tutoring inmates to volunteering as an EMT, and I can't think of a more fulfilling way to continue serving than working as part of the incredible team at Open Media Foundation.
City Leaders Learn About OMP for Gov at Statewide Conference
Three OMF staffers presented at the Colorado Municipal League Conference in Breckenridge on June 17. The presentation covered Video Streaming and Archiving for Transparency and Accessibility, and highlighted the mission behind the Open Media Project.

The OMF team showcased the Open Media Project for Government service, which provides live video streaming and searchable archives of government meetings from all over the state. OMP case studies included the Colorado General Assembly, the Colorado Judicial Branch, as well as city council workflows from Thornton and Louisville.

"It was great to talk with staff and elected officials from so many cities and towns that do not yet have available video of public meetings," said Gavin Dahl. "We really enjoyed the participation of Thornton Mayor Pro Tem Val Vigil, whose city was the first to adopt the OMP for Gov."
