OMF/DOM at NAB

Open Media Foundation attended this year's NAB Show, the world's largest expo for media professionals, in Las Vegas. The conference was attended by over 100,000 people. Gavin Dahl, OMF Account Executive, promoted the Open Media ProjectStationed on the floor of the trade show at the booth of our partners from Tightrope Media Systems, Gavin talked with government access TV staff from around the country. Stay tuned for some big announcements in the months ahead!

Denver Open Media Station Director Ann Theis also attended, dodging the ubiquitous drones. There were hundreds of models of video-carrying flying devices on display. Next to those were dozens and dozens of gimble-smooth, portable DSLR hand-held and shoulder rigs. DOM hopes to add these to the budget for next year.

Other than promoting the Open Media Project, the main focus of the trip for OMF was looking at HD PTZ cameras for the Colorado Channel's HD upgrade, upgrading the Z5Us to 4K-capable cameras, replacing our wired lav microphones, and finding a new solution for the Apple Xsan/Workgroup Manager system that we use to run our networked-edit systems. Ann also learned about the new features and fixes for some of DOM's existing gear, such as the Fillex LED light kit, the Atomos Shogun, and the Livestream Switcher.

Be sure to ask Ann if you have any questions at ann@openmediafoundation.org.

Open Music Sessions at Denver Open Media, May 1
On the first Friday of each month, DOM hosts a community event with local performance groups, musical acts and nonprofit partners. These events are broadcast live on Comcast Channel 57 in Denver as well as streamed on DOM's website.  Events are cablecast and streamed live in Denver Open Media's Studio A.

Join DOM for this month's Open Music Sessions on Friday, May 1, featuring a live musical performance by Felix Fast4ward.

Felix Fast4ward

Alongside intense turntable technique and musical intuition, coupled with juxtaposing obscure records that seemingly do not fit together, Felix Fast4ward creates lush and soulfully imaginative improvised compositions. Using a Looper and various other instruments (flute, guitar, harmonica, melodica, keyboards and voice), Fast4wrd reinvents the "One-Man Band."

Please join our Facebook event and share us!

Video Client Profile - DPS Foundation
Open Media Foundation is proud to create several videos each year for the Denver Public Schools Foundation, Denver Public Schools' fundraising partner. Most of these videos debut at the organization's annual Achieve Gala, which raises nearly $1 million every year to support proven programs in Denver Public Schools.

This year's gala showcased two videos that were filmed and edited by our OMF Video Production staff and production interns. One video featured DPSF's A to Z Fund, which provides grants to individual schools for programs and activities that go beyond the school's budget. There were different uses of the fund demonstrated in the video, ranging from students enjoying an overnight at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science to a class of students with autism taking a field trip to ride horses at Acres of Opportunity Ranch. Our staff and interns had a blast filming this one!

The second video, titled Success, highlighted Isaac Solano, a former DPS graduate and Gala speaker, who will soon be graduating from Columbia University with a Master's in Education.

This year's gala was a huge success and we look forward to continuing our partnership with the Denver Public Schools Foundation for many years to come!
Meet OMF Intern Dani Kent
Danielle Kent, a two-time intern at Open Media Foundation/Denver Open Media, is currently exploring her interests through the opportunities available at Open Media Foundation. "I came upon OMF by chance originally while researching a way to play with video and was drawn to the Fundraising/Development internship," Dani explains. "Upon that internship's conclusion, I decided to switch gears and get a taste
of what goes into a TV show!"

Dani says she has learned a lot through the classes at OMF/DOM, not only about the organization and media, but about herself as well. OMF interns can take classes for free during their internship.

"It's pretty impressive what goes on here, and there is great value to a community in having access to a place where you can feel free to express yourself and be heard on a wide scale."
