Return Kindness
Greetings!

"As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that
the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live
by them."
                          --John Fitzgerald Kennedy

Carole & Cortes It is hard to believe that once again we are all preparing for the holiday season. A time of year when we tend to look back over the year, count our blessings, and begin to consider goals and dreams for the new year. We hope all of you were able to check off more than a few items on your "bucket list" of risks taken, fears challenged, adventures dared, and goals achieved.

We wish you all a wonderful holiday season and hope to see you in the new Year. Stay open and spread your arms to embrace friends and family within the arc of your circle. We send a special thank you to all our volunteers and donors who helped make this year possible.                                      -- Live Fearlessly,  Carole
2012 Summer Fundraiser a Success
FUNday entertainment

The second annual Soltura fundraising auction held over the summer was a huge success!! We raised $35,241 through the auction, $1,025 from admissions tickets to the FUNday event, $190 in Soltura store sales, and $2,550 in donations ... for a grand total of $39,006!!

The Lakebay FUNday event on August 18, 2012 was fabulous, attended by members of the Soltura community from the Puget Sound region and the entire Board of Directors. We had an active day with attendees kayaking, paddle-boarding, playing badminton, drumming, and relaxing with friends. Entertainment was provided by The Behnkes, Katrina Nilsson-Gorman, Carolyn Campbell, Jamie Tidwell and a spontaneous assembly of guitarists. And, like always, there was an abundance of great food and FUN!!

We want to thank all the people who donated the diverse collection of auction items, helped with the Lakebay activities ... and, of course, all the folks who bid on the auction items, both online and at the live silent auction!

A SPECIAL SHOUT OUT of acknowledgment to Alix Buckley for heading up the fundraiser, working tirelessly to solicit items for inclusion in the auction and organizing the FUNday event and activities. Also, thank you to all the other volunteers who helped out with the auction and Lakebay gathering.

To us, [our daughter] is one of the most amazing people we know. We lost her about 10 years ago. Nothing we did seemed to help. Then six years ago we really lost her. Until March of this year, we had just about given up hope.

In March [our daughter] had a major melt down and asked to come visit us. March seemed to be a turning point for her...we had watched [Carole] on YouTube and thought maybe, just maybe, Carole can get through to her. So we offered the program and [our daughter] accepted.

What happened after that, I call nothing but magical. We received a text message from her that Saturday night the program was finished. She thanked us big time for sending her to Soltura and told us how much she loved us. We were able to speak with her the next day. I was stunned by the joy that came out of her--actual laughter, from the heart, you can tell that laugh when you hear it.

In August of this year...[my daughter] announced she was leaving the life style she had been living for the past six years. She had all her business taken care of and had moved a week and a half later. She is enrolled in school, is healing and recovering from where she has been. She has completely cut all ties to that life in the past...She is reconnected with her father and I [and the rest of the family]. She is happy, relaxed and communicating like I haven't seen in years.

So this is how she is doing now. But I want you to know that I am very aware that she would not be who she is now without you and your amazing gift/talent. I don't know how you do what you do, but it is nothing short of brilliant and amazing. I send you blessings every day! I am grateful for your insight, talent, ability to get to the core. I am grateful for having my daughter back, every day! You have given our family the greatest gift we could have ever asked for.

Living Our Dreams
This column features members of our community who are living their passions and making dreams come true.
By Denise Barry

It is amazing how the Universe works its magic. I never imagined that I would be living my dream as a coach, helping people live healthier and happier lives. I was at a turning point in my life where our children would be in school full time and I had the freedom to pursue my dreams. I was always trying to figure out what I wanted to do as a career, and one day realized that I was trying too hard. It was through accepting myself and the situation for what it was, not judging it, staying present, and getting quiet, that things just fell into place without me having to try. I was introduced to Ideal Protein through an unmistakeable touch of grace in August 2010. After trying the product myself and seeing the results, I started You Choose Weight Loss in order to help others do the same.

I have experienced a lot of personal development work, especially through SOLTURA where I discovered my personal power, and learned many other tools for self-awareness. It was through an exercise on "Choice" where I realized that everyone has the choice to listen to the voice that says "I can" or the voice that says "I can't". Today, my voice says "I can", and it is so strong and passionate that I want to pay it forward by helping others discover their own power. I believe that everyone has a choice in what they want in their life whether it is weight loss, health, relationships, or their goals and dreams. My goal is to help people make and honour that choice. I am also currently studying with the SWAT Institute to obtain my life coaching certification. Please help spread the word about Soltura workshops
Roger White
Joins the Board

Roger White
We are happy to announce that Roger White has joined the Soltura Board of Directors. Roger and his wife Corky were among the original group of parents to complete the workshop trilogy and support the early development of Soltura. Since then, Roger has remained involved, frequently volunteering to facilitate the men's workshop trilogy. For the past two years, he also attended the annual NATSAP conference to help Soltura network with referring professionals and therapeutic programs for struggling teens. Being thoroughly familiar with Soltura's history and services, Roger is a tremendous addition to our Board. Welcome!
Donor Spotlight
Gail Terrell
Gail Terrell, is one of Soltura's unsung heroes. For the past several years, she has quietly supported virtually every Soltura fundraising activity. Beginning in January 2010 and continuing to the present, Gail has made a recurring monthly contribution to the Soltura Scholarship Fund, enabling Soltura to extend scholarships to one or more additional people each month. She has also been an active bidder in the Summer FUNdraiser actions the past two years and attended all Lakebay events. We even spotted her dancing on the fringe of drum circles!
Gail dancing

We know Gail has given selflessly, never seeking the spotlight for herself, but her generosity has so touched our hearts, we must shine a light on her incredible support and contribution to Soltura's scholarship program, helping many folks participate in our workshops who otherwise would be unable to attend.
Facilitator Spotlight
Lane Kingsbery
Lane Kingsbery has been involved with Soltura for a number of years, first as a participant, then as a facilitator, and most recently as a referrer. Lane completed the Knight in Rusty Armor trilogy in September 2008 and has been a frequent facilitator in men's workshops ever since. Lane's energy, passion, and consistent support for new participants is always a welcome addition to any workshop.

As a counselor at Gig Harbor Counseling, a service of
Olalla Recovery Centers, Lane works directly with clients transitioning out of substance abuse treatment into the community. Knowing how participation in Soltura workshops can provide valuable tools to individuals in recovery, Lane refers appropriate clients to the Dilemma workshop during their transition process. He often also volunteers to facilitate their workshop. It has been a treat to watch Lane grow through his journey of self-discovery and his support of others as they embark on their on own journey.
Women's Bermuda Vacation Trip
Soltura Women in Bermuda
During last year's 2011 Summer FUNdraiser Auction, a group of Soltura women bid on and won the vacation accommodations at a luxury home in Bermuda. This year, soon after our Fundraiser Auction 2012 ended, the group, consisting of workshop facilitators and graduates of the Women's Trilogy, traveled to Bermuda for a week of sunshine, sightseeing, swimming, relaxing ... and, most important, catching up with friends amid laughter, good food, and beautiful views ... the ultimate women's getaway!!
