Young Woman of Distinction Changes Testing for Deaf Students |
Anna, a 2014 National Young Woman of distinction from Girl Scouts of Suffolk County, is giving deaf students across the New York State an equal opportunity to excel at standardized tests that previously required them to complete a listening portion. Thanks to her inspiring advocacy efforts, New York changed its Test Access Accommodations Guidelines for Students with Disabilities to offer hearing impaired students the ability to use written text during the listening section. Way to go Anna!

Nominate a Student for This Tompkins County Program |
United Way of Tompkins County is accepting nominations for the 16th annual Youth and Philanthropy (YAP) program. YAP is a leadership initiative that gives students in the TST BOCES district the opportunity to take an active role in their communities, and award $25,000 in grant funds. Since 2000, about 200 students have awarded over $300,000 to local nonprofits. The program is made possible through the generous support of The Park Foundation. YAP provides a formal, structured opportunity for young people to develop leadership skills, learn about their community and think about philanthropy as an important part of their lives. Students participate in team-building activities, learn about community needs and assets, explore leadership abilities, review grant applications, develop financial and program assessment skills, and invest in programs that are making a difference in their community. Please submit your nomination by Monday, August 31, 2015. We encourage you to nominate local students who are entering their junior or senior year, enjoy community service and are emerging leaders. Students in the TST BOCES district are eligible to participate. Each organization may nominate up to four students. If you have any questions or would like more information, contact Kelsey Rossbach at (607) 272-6286 or [email protected].

Financial Reports STILL Overdue |
Many troops still haven't turned in the financial reports that were due June 30. From our policies: Failure to complete the annual financial report, could put the troop and/or service unit leadership in jeopardy of not being reappointed for the next year. If the ending balance exceeds $1,000, please make a note of the great plans the troop has for using the monies. Troop/Group accounts can be closed if financial reports have not been submitted by the deadline and the troop will be treated as disbanded.
Contact your staff representative to get these in and if you need help completing the form. Thanks!
