SrTroop40795 in RI

Photo of the Week

Senior Girl Scout Troop 40795 of Towanda, PA enjoyed a journey to Newport, RI in June.  Here the girls are pictured in front of Marble House, built in the late 19th century as a summer home for the Vanderbilts.  The home was just one of many architectural history stops the girls made.  They also spent time on the Cliff Walk enjoying the wildflowers, birds and ecology.  The Walk is designated a National Recreation Trail.  The girls sold over 2,000 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies, hosted a Zumba Glow Party, and held a yard sale to earn money for the trip.

Send your photo for consideration in the Photo of the Week to Kim Dunne, Media Manager.

Everyone Loves a Parade. Join Us at the State Fair!
Cookie Parade
Have you heard? September 2 is Girl Scout Day at the NYS Fair!  Along with our booth in the Youth Building that you can visit during the entire fair, join us in the parade on September 2.  Line up begins at 5:30 p.m.  Wear your vest/sashes.  The theme for Girl Scouts in the parade this year is all about cookies!   What are your cookie program goals for 2016? What were they for 2015? Put your goals on a sign you can carry and share with fair goers.  Little Brownie Bakers, the maker of our delicious cookies, will be looking for photos and videos of you in the parade to help kick off the company's Girl Scout Cookies Across America campaign.  You might become nationally famous!! Please let us know you plan to be part of the parade so we can keep you up to date with details. Email Colleen Saxby.
National S'mores Day Is August 10!

Smore

Get the campfires burning! What's your favorite way to make a s'more?   August 10 is National S'mores Day and we at Girl Scouts know that the first-known recorded version of a S'mores recipe can be found in an official Girl Scouts publication from 1927. The recipe is credited to Loretta Scott Crew, who reportedly made them by the campfire for Girl Scouts. Originally called "Some Mores," it is unknown when the name was shortened to "S'mores," but recipes for using the longer name are in various Girl Scout publications until at least 1971.

Looking for a Bronze or Silver Project?
Geneva Reads' mission is to inspire a culture of lifelong reading by providing books and creating shared experiences through dynamic community collaboration.  One of its many programs is stocking red shelves around the Geneva community (in Ontario County) with gently used children's books, making them available to kids free of charge.   Keeping the bookshelves full is a challenge.  Interested in organizing a collection of children's books for Geneva Reads as a troop project?  Or perhaps a Bronze or Silver Award Take Action project? Contact asgenevareads@gmail.com.
