 Comfort Zone 2012

Our Comfort Zone program for girls in grades 6-8 from the Utica and Rome school districts, was held at Utica College May 23, 2012. There were 110 girls in attendance that spent the day in a rotation of workshops provided by community partners: YWCA, National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Peacemakers, Safe Schools, Cornell Cooperative and Young Scholars. Workshops included: team building, cyber bullying, healthy relationships, body image, stress management, nutrition and time management.

Gold Awardees:  McGinnis and Grace

McGinnis M.McGinnis and marqueeMcGinnisis a freshman at Maine Endwell High School. She learned many things in the process of her project, including that she
can speak in public, that it's harder to lead people than do a job yourself (but necessary to complete a large project), and that she really can make a difference. McGinnis learned that Binghamton was named the most depressing city in the United States. She decided to create scavenger hunts around parts of Broome County to give residents an activity. The reward for each person at each location is a handmade stamp to stamp in their BroomeQuest brochure! She was a keynote speaker at our Broome County Women of Distinction last night.

Grace N
Grace Nis a senior at CW Baker High School.
She learned how to communicate with people
in leadership positions and how to ask for help!
She plans to study communications and hopes
to improve the world and continue being a Girl
Scout! Her memorable Girl Scout experience was
earning the Bronze Award by working at a spay and
neuter clinic. Grace worked with the First Baptist
Church of Baldwinsville to fix up their kitchen. The kitchen serves as a hub for community outreach. Now that the kitchen is fixed up, more of the community can benefit from what the church has to offer.
