Photo of the Week!
The Tioga Center Nichols Girl Scout leaders and daughters recently held their annual leader/daughter camping weekend at Misty Hollow's Crooked Oak Lodge. They enjoyed hiking, several Easter egg hunts, egg decorating crafts, Dominoes and Bingo, dancing, cooking Po'boys over the fire, S'mores (of course), stories and more. There was also hair styling and lots of interacting, ideas, support and useful information shared between the leaders. So much fun was had that they decided to hold Leader/Daughter weekends more than just once a year! They are looking forward to the next weekend together!! "We highly recommend leader/daughter weekends for all the service units. It gives leaders an opportunity to visit the council's great camps, spend time camping with their daughters, and to share ideas and mentor new leaders," said leader Tara Cofone who submitted this photo.
Submit your photos to Kim Dunne. Yours may be selected for our Photo of the Week!

Making the World a Better Place Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place.
Our ability to deliver on this mission is tied directly to having adults - volunteers and staff - who have the commitment to make the world a better place by investing in the young women whose lives are immeasurably strengthened through the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. MORE |

Gold Awardees: Danielle and Mikaelan |
Danielle C. is studying liberal arts at college. She enjoyed being part of the council's Disaster Relief team, traveling and helping people affected by hurricanes Katrina and Irene. She hopes to join Americorps to help rebuild neighborhoods in future disasters. For her Take Action project, she provided personal care items and food to individuals in her community who were in economic hardship.
Mikaelan C-S. is a senior at Walton Central School. She hopes to study biology and engineering in college. She loved participating in Girl Scout destinations. She spent a week on a 77-foot schooner, camped in Yellowstone National Park, hiked in the Grand Tetons, whitewater rafted on a glacial river in Alaska and worked at a sea turtle farm in Costa Rica. Her Gold Award Take Action project had Mikaelan working with elementary students to make them more aware of different countries and cultures. She wanted to alleviate bullying. She provided a peace pole to the school.

Girl Scouts Need Flat Juliette Help
|
A Girl Scout Cadette Troop from Brewster, NY sent this request. In 2009, an 8-year old member of the troop, Kayla Donohue, and her mother, Lori, were killed by a drunk driver on the way out of Kayla's dance class. The girls have created KDAY, a memorial event held each year in June, to honor their memories and connect with other Girl Scouts.
Last year, as part of the event, they made troops of Flat Juliettes. On the back of each Juliette is Kayla's story. They want to start the Juliettes on an adventure. They ask that troops take Juliette on an adventure (a la Flat Stanley) and create an 8.5x11 scrapbook page to send back to them recounting her adventure with the troop by June 1, 2013. "We are collecting the stories to share at our event this year and give to Kayla's family thereafter," said leader Robyn Scinta
If you or your troop wants to participate, contact Robyn and she'll send Juliettes out. Included in the package will be instructions and background. Leaders should include their mailing address and the number of girls in the troop. "We hope to spread the word about our friend, Kayla, and connect with Girl Scouts across the country. We are in 28 states to date," said Robyn.
