ESAR 2014 - Registered Team Update #1#1

Dear ESAR Racers,

It's been a miserably long wait, but ESAR 2014 is finally on the horizon!  In just less than two months we'll all be descending on the charming and scenic village of Paisley, which has welcomed this race with open arms.  Support from the local community has been absolutely wonderful - we are very grateful to our friends at Cowan Canoe Livery for convincing us to bring ESAR out to their region for this year!

We're definitely not big fans of the snowfall they've had  though. Lake-effect snow resulting from its proximity to Huron is the norm for winters in Bruce County, but this year was something else!  We are still planning for a course-testing session for the last week of April, but we know we're not going to get to check out as much of it as we normally would at this time of year.  Watch for another update as we get closer to Race Day - hopefully by then we'll have something to report!

Racer Information Package - NEW!

One piece of news we CAN update you with however, is a recent update to the racer information package.  Under "Racecourse Notes" in Section 4, you will notice that we've added a note referencing the fact that there will be two short swim sections on this year's course.  Further details are available by clicking here.

The racer info package provides absolutely everything you need to know about this year's ESAR, including the Race Day itinerary, directions to the host site, the mandatory gear list, and a directory of local accommodations.  If you haven't yet seen it, please do take a moment to have a read.

One other important change for 2014 worth noting that we will be starting the Full ESAR and ESAR-Lite courses at the same time, but hosting an earlier/separate ESAR-Lite awards ceremony.  Also, there will be no pre-race bike drop as per the 2013 event.

Help Us Get the Word Out!

Although we do have a little over 50 teams signed up thus far, we're tracking noticeably lower than in recent years at this time.  This is a trend seen with pretty much anything related to outdoor recreation as a result of the brutal winter, but one we've also noticed over the past couple of years.

If you would be willing to help spread the word about ESAR by posting the race poster at your base or station, we would be tremendously grateful.  The full-size version can be downloaded by clicking here  Challenge your
co-workers; challenge your friends; challenge your arch rival! We've got an awesome course lined up this year - they won't want to miss it!

Volunteers Always Welcome

The local support from the surrounding community has been amazing, but we're always on the lookout for more Race Day volunteers.  If you know of someone who is planning to be there but not racing, we'd love to have them join our race staff team!

Not only do we promise to treat them well, we also offer a $25 per volunteer rebate on your entry fees.  This can also be made available as a credit towards other events, either for your team or for your volunteers.  For more info, contact us at

DontGetLost.ca Giant's Rib Raid

There's simply no better opportunity in the Spring to brush up on your pre-ESAR nav skills than the DontGetLost.ca Giant's Rib Raid.  Like ESAR, the 'Rib Raid' is also open to teams of three, presenting the perfect opportunity to dust off the winter cobwebs as a team.  This year's race takes place on Sunday May 4th, and will be hosted from the small community of Kilbride, just north of Burlington.

Looking forward to seeing you again in June!  Be sure to follow us at www.facebook.com/stormracing for all the latest news and updates.  You can also join the ESAR group page at www.facebook.com/#!/groups/2268002490/
