ESAR News and Updates for May, 2013

Dear ESAR Racers,

Ah Spring...welcome back (you were sorely missed!)

There were STILL some remnants of snow in the Beaver Valley as of our latest course checks the other weekend, but it's definitely on its way out.  Despite this, conditions were surprisingly dry, and we had an absolute blast ripping through the trails of this kick-ass course.  This region is truly amazing with its spectacular terrain and very unique land features, which allows for a racecourse that we're not only proud to bring you, but seriously can't wait to show you!

Equally as awesome is the host site at the Beaver Valley Ski Club.  Featuring a spacious chalet for race briefings and map prep, a gorgeous licensed patio overlooking the finish line, and a swimming hole in a gently-moving creek for post-race dunking, we honestly couldn't ask for more from a race venue. Not sure where it is? Click here for a Google Map of the site.

Close to eighty teams are registered to-date, and of the 911 division, the Paramedic category has suddenly become the largest grouping.  Bring it on Fire, Police an Military teams!  Get yourselves signed up today at www.esar.ca

 Volunteers - We Need You!

Not planning to race but want to be part of the ESAR experience?  Bringing friends and family with you to the race?  Why not enable them to see you in action out on the racecourse as an official member of our Race Day team?  We promise to take good care of them, and provide food, shelter, an ESAR race tee and even camp chairs for anywhere they may be positioned!

If you or someone you know would like to help out for a few hours on Race Day, we want to hear from you!  Please contact us by writing to info@stormevents.ca

Beaver Valley Accommodations

Since Talisman Resort closed down a few years ago, accommodations options in the Beaver Valley are a little less plentiful, but there are still lots of great places to stay!  We've listed out everything we could find in the racer information package and the list is actually fairly long.

Our personal recommendation if you have a larger group looking for a place to stay together is a chalet rental through Sea & Ski Realty.  There are some gorgeous properties offered for rent over the summer months in this region (we've booked one ourselves for our Race Staff team).  Contact info is provided in the racer info package linked above, along with numerous options for cottage resorts, motels, inns and B&B's.  We've also stayed at the Knights Inn Motel in Flesherton, and have nothing but great things to say about it.

Stars Elora Cup Orienteering Event

This might be one of your last pre-ESAR

opportunities to get some hands-on practice with the ol' map and compass - the Stars Orienteering Club's Elora Cup takes place on Saturday June 1st, and it features both sprint and middle distances courses. While this year's ESAR course will not feature 'true' orienteering map sections as it has in year's past, there's no question that these types of events can only better sharpen your nav skills.  Check out the details at

Welcome North City Insurance!

Our many thanks go out to our newest ESAR sponsor North City General Insurance Brokers for their support of this year's race. North City has been providing a Group Auto & Home Insurance Program to First Responders for over 30 years, offering great premium savings and personalized service.  Take a test ride and see what they can offer you at www.northcity.ca

Looking forward to seeing you in June!
