Newport Harbor High School

ZAP (Zeros Aren't Permitted) Program 2013-2014

Hello Parents/Students:

Our high school believes that our students should make every effort to complete assigned work for his/her classes on the due dates that are set by our teachers.   Completing tasks on time is a life skill that will aid our students now and in their future.  Sometimes, however, students don't complete their assigned work on time. So, we have developed a program in order to give these students a second opportunity earn partial credit.  We believe that partial credit earned is better than zero credit earned.  The intent of the ZAP Program is to condition students to get their assignments completed on time for full credit and eventually minimize the number of students who will need to be referred to our ZAP Program.

The ZAP Program will begin on Monday, September 16th in our Library on weekdays from 1:30 - 4:00 pm.  The ZAP Program will be utilized in the following classes regardless of the grade level for these students

Students who fail to complete an assignment and are given a ZAP referral by their teacher will be expected to attend the ZAP Program in the Library Reading Room after their last class of that day.  Students will receive a copy of the ZAP form to show the ZAP Coordinator. This form will indicate any assignment(s) that need to be completed before being released from the Room.

Students who are referred to ZAP and fail to show up on the day they are assigned ZAP will not be able to earn partial credit.  They will then be assigned detention.  Repeated incidents of not showing up for ZAP will be referred to both the Counseling and the Student Services Office for further intervention.
