CONGRATULATIONS TO NEWPORT HARBOR SAILING TEAM
On April 20th & 21st the Newport Harbor Sailing Team sent 9 sailors to the Gold Pacific Coast Championships (PCC's) at Cabrillo Beach Yacht Club and 10 sailors up to San Francisco to sail Silver PCC's at Sausalito Yacht Club. Gold PCC's was a tough regatta with the top 6 teams all having a shot at qualifying for the 5 available berths. NHHS sailed well all weekend and was in contention for the win all the way up to the finish where we ended up 4th overall and qualified for the Mallory Championships taking place this weekend at Chicago Yacht Club! The team also sailed very well up in San Francisco completing 7 races per division in light and fluky conditions. Finishing a very respectful 9th and 12th overall.
On April 27th and 28th the Sailing Team also competed in the Team Race PCC's where the top three teams qualify for nationals. Newport Harbor secured their spot in a series of races that came down to the wire and resulted in a third place victory and a spot in the Team Race National Championship to be held in Florida May 25th and 26th.
Good luck to all of our sailors as they head off to compete in these national events.

Wonderful work to the Home Tour Artist:
Intro to the Home Tour:
We are so thankful to all the homeowners who open up their homes for the Newport Harbor Home and Garden Tour. To show our appreciation to them, they are given a beautiful rendering of the exterior of their home done by one of the talented art students at Newport Harbor High School. This artwork is often treasured by the homeowners and proudly displayed in the homes featured on the home tour. Be sure to look for these unique art pieces when you tour the homes this year.
Art teacher, Alesandra Esquivel:
"I am very proud of my students who participated in the Home Tour assignment! The Home Tour assignment is a great way for the advance students to continue their progression with utilizing their artistic skills. This project also offers an opportunity for the students to possibly try something they have never done before. The Home Tours assignment is designed to help students create an original artwork, along with sharing their talents with the Home owners and the school. Students work from photo references and may chose any art medium they would like to work with. This allows all students to add that creative freedom with the material and adds a variety throughout the project. It's a wonderful experience to watch and guide these artists produce this original artwork using their style and talents."

Absence Phone Line:
When your student is absent, please report it.
Call (949) 515-6305
Just a reminder that no student will be released from school over the telephone and no early dismissals will be issued over the telephone. The parent/guardian should send their student to school with a note to obtain an Off Campus Permit. The student needs to give their note to Attendance before school or at break.
In the event of an emergency, a parent/guardian must come into the Attendance Office and sign the student out of school. The Attendance Office will not telephone classrooms to have students excused from school out of respect for instructional time.
If a student becomes ill while at school, the student should not call their parent. They should instead go to the nurse's office. The nurse will call home for the student.
Thank you to all Newport Harbor parents and students for your understanding and your cooperation.
